Installing the Email Sending Daemon

Complete the steps in the following procedure to install the Email Sending Daemon. Before installing the Email Sending Daemon, make sure that you have completed the installation requirements for email marketing. For more information, see Requirements for Installing Email Marketing.

To install the Email Sending Daemon on a Windows or UNIX server

  1. On a Windows server, run the Email Sending Daemon installation program, esd-install.exe.

  2. On a UNIX server, perform the following steps:

    1. Make an installation directory named esd using the following command:

      mkdir esd
      
    2. Copy the Email Sending Daemon installation program from the installation media to the directory that you created.

    3. In the Email Sending Daemon installation directory, run the Email Sending Daemon installation program.

  3. In the Installation dialog box, review the information, and then click Next.

  4. In the Choose Java Virtual Machine dialog box, select the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) that you installed in Requirements for Installing Email Marketing, and then click Next.

    Note: Make sure that you choose the correct JRE. Selecting the wrong JRE prevents the Email Sending Daemon from starting properly.
  5. In the Choose Install Folder dialog box, choose the Email Sending Daemon installation directory, and then click Next.

    Note: Make sure that there are no spaces in the installation directory path.
  6. Review the Pre-Installation Summary dialog box, and then click Install.

  7. In the Install Complete dialog box, verify the information, and then click Done.

  8. Navigate to the Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Services application.

  9. If the Siebel Email Sending Daemon service does not exist, create a Windows service for stopping and starting the service as follows::
    1. Navigate to the directory where you installed Email Sending Daemon in Step 5.

    2. Double-click the install-win32-service.bat file. This creates the Email Sending Daemon service in the Windows services list.
