An XBRL taxonomy contains one or more schemas that define the line items or elements that can be contained in an instance document. After you add or remove XBRL taxonomies in the xbrlfiles directory, you must update the registration of the schemas. (For information on downloading the XBRL taxonomies, see Downloading XBRL taxonomies to the XBRL directory.)
Some noteworthy information that may affect the outcome of your instance report:
The taxonomy must exist in the xbrlfiles directory on the Report Server before you can update the list of schemas.
The taxonomy must exist in the xbrlfiles directory in order to export an instance document. For example, if you add the us-gaap-basi-2005-02-28 taxonomy to the xbrlfiles directory, update the schema registration, then create an XBRL report with that schema / taxonomy, you can create an instance report. However, if you remove the us-gaap-basi-2005-02-28 taxonomy from the xbrlfiles directory the instance document cannot be exported.
When you open a report with XBRL line items defined in the report, the dependent taxonomies must be registered on the Report Server. If the taxonomy does not exist or is not registered, an error message informs the designer regarding the missing or unregistered taxonomies, and the report does not open.
XBRL functionality exists for reports in Reporting Studio only. Reports, containing XBRL taxonomies can be imported into Workspace. However, taxonomy information is bypassed and XBRL functions are disabled.
