Managing XBRL Units

Use the XBRL Unit Manager to create reusable definitions of simple and compound unit of measures that can be assigned to grids, columns, and cells in any financial report and by any Reporting Studio user. The compound unit of measure enables you to specify a multiplication or division operator, and then two units; remember that this is only a description.

XBRL requires that each piece of numeric data in an instance document be associated with a line item, and each XBRL fact must refer to context and unit. For information on context, see Managing XBRL Context.

For the most part, all of the numerical facts on a grid will be in the same units. However, you can override the grid settings and define XBRL units at the cell level to formula cells and data cells.

  To add XBRL Units

  1. Select Task, then XBRL Management, and then Units Manager.

  2. In XBRL Manager - Manage Units, click New to display XBRL Manager - Unit Setup.
