Managing SMS campaign keywords

To respond to incoming Mobile Originated SMS campaign, you must define keywords, then map them to each long and short code in your account.

Only Account Administrators can add and delete keywords. Any user can view the following information about a keyword:

  • The code with which the keyword is associated.
  • The sender name corresponding to the code.
  • The name and status of the campaigns that use the keyword and the name of associated programs.
  • Keyword Forwarding status of the keyword.
  • Position of opt-out keywords in the customer message.

Each keyword can be of one of the following type:

  • Opt_out

Automatically unsubscribes the mobile number. If multiple records with the matching mobile number exist, all records are unsubscribed. Opt-out keywords can be placed either in the beginning or anywhere in the customer message.

  • Opt-in

Automatically subscribes the mobile number. If multiple records with the matching mobile number exist, by default the record with the most recent modified date is subscribed.

If want to subscribe all matching records, please contact Responsys Support to enable this feature for you.

About keyword forwarding

When an SMS message is received using a specific keyword, you can post the message, along with the mobile number and short code, to an externally hosted web service for further processing. For example, the recipient can request flight departure information by sending an MO with the keyword DEPART, such as DEPART 854. You can use keyword forwarding to forward all incoming messages with the keyword DEPART to an external URI hosted by you. You can then process the information and respond with a message using the SMS Web Services API.

To work with keywords

  1. From the side navigation bar, select Account . (If you do not see the side navigation bar, click the Menu button (aka Hamburger menu) icon.)
  2. Select Campaign management, and then select SMS keywords management. (Not seeing this choice? Refer to the Account management changes topic.)
  3. The Manage Mobile SMS Keyword page shows all keywords defined for all codes. You will also see the Sender Name corresponding to each code, if applicable. To see keywords for a specific code, select the code from the Show drop-down list and click Go.
  4. To filter the list, select the option you want from the Filter By drop-down list, and optionally, type the text you want to find, then click Go.

To add a keyword:

Only Account Administrators can add keywords.

You can associate multiple keywords with each code. Certain compliance keywords (e.g. STOP, STOP ALL, QUIT, and HELP) are restricted for shared codes; dedicated/private codes do not have such restrictions.

  1. Click Add Keyword.

    The Add Keyword dialog opens.

  2. In the Code drop-down list, select the code to associate with this keyword.
  3. For a short code, select the country from the Country list.
  4. Type the keyword in the Keyword field.
  5. Select a type from the Keyword Type list.
  6. To enable keyword forwarding, select the Keyword Forwarding checkbox.
  7. For opt-out keywords, select the keyword position from the Keyword Position list.

You can place the opt-out keyword either in the beginning or anywhere in the customer message. If the keyword can be placed anywhere in the message, Oracle Responsys parses the message to check for the keyword and opts the customer out.

  8. To add more keywords, click Add Keyword.
  9. Click Add.

The keyword is added and the dialog closes.
