Database Observability and Data Security
Data is one of the most valuable assets your organization has to offer. Data in your Oracle Database can include public and confidential information that needs to be saved. Many countries have enacted laws to protect data, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These laws regulate how companies can collect, process, and store personally identifiable information (PII).
Data protection must be a part of all of your business strategies. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) provides the following tools for observability in your database infrastructures and for the data residing there:
Database Observability
Monitor your database operations to stay informed of errors as they occur, instead of waiting for error notifications. Monitoring helps you understand how your database normally operates. Understanding normal behavior can help you recognize when something is wrong.
It's also important to create alarms and alerts to identify when error conditions occur. OCI services such as Database Management, Operations Insights, and Monitoring provide the tools needed to monitor, alert, and understand your Oracle Database infrastructure. For more information, see:
Data Security
Many processes and procedures are required to help keep your data secure. For example, employees at all levels must be educated about data security. Data at rest and data in transit must be encrypted. Only authorized individuals should have access to data, and individuals should have access only to the data required to do their jobs.
Oracle Data Safe is a fully integrated cloud service focused on securing your data. The service provides a complete set of features for protecting sensitive and regulated data in Oracle Cloud databases. Features include security assessment, user assessment, data discovery, data masking, and activity auditing. For more information, see:

Data Resiliency
As with any accident, it's hard to predict when you'll need to recover data. You can't control when a disaster strikes, but you can control the recovery process. Oracle Data Guard provides high availability, data protection, and disaster recovery for enterprise data. Data Guard provides the ability to survive disasters and data corruption while creating, maintaining, and managing one or more synchronized standby databases. For more information, see:
