Install Management Agents

Follow the Management Agent installation steps recommended in one of the following methods depending on the host you want to install on:

After you install the Management Agent, complete the following Log Analytics specific tasks to start the log collection:

  • Map your entities to your agent: Create your entities and select the Management Agent that was installed to associate the agent with this entity. See Create an Entity to Represent Your Log-Emitting Resource. You can also edit an existing entity and add the agent.

  • Configure source-entity association. You can use the Add Data wizard to perform this task. For step-by-step help to complete the task, see OCI Log Analytics: Set Up Continuous Log Collection (Tutorial icon Tutorial ).

Note

The management agent connects to the following endpoints for Oracle Log Analytics operations:
  • Upload the logs and log collection warning:
    https://loganalytics.<region>.oci.oraclecloud.com/<additional_part_pertaining_to_the_operation>
  • Metrics:
    https://telemetry-ingestion.<region>.oraclecloud.com/<additional_part_pertaining_to_the_operation>

In the above endpoints, region is the identifier for your region, for example, us-ashburn-1.

Deploy Agent on OCI Compute Instance

When you are using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) compute instances, also known as hosts or VMs, you can deploy Management Agents on compute instances using the Oracle Cloud Agent. The Oracle Cloud Agent allows to enable the Management Agent plugin on the compute instance.

Perform the prerequisites before deploying the agent, enable the Management Agent on compute instance, and verify the agent after it is enabled. For detailed steps, see Deploy Management Agents on Compute Instances.

To enable Management Agent plug-in in the Oracle Cloud Agent, ensure that the JVM heap size is at least 512 MB.

Agent Installation Steps for All Other Hosts

Follow these steps if the host that you want to install the agent on is not OCI compute instance.

Perform the prerequisite tasks, download the Management Agent software, create the install key, configure a response file, install the Management Agent, and verify that the installation is complete. For detailed steps, see Install Management Agents.

Ensure to deploy the Log Analytics plug-in when installing the agent.

As part of the installation process, you will need to create a response file in which you must include the following line for enabling Log Analytics plug-in:

Service.plugin.logan.download=true
