Configuring DB System Maintenance
Configure DB system maintenance to choose your own maintenance window start time and upgrade path.

Use the Console to configure DB system maintenance:
- On the DB systems list page, select the DB system that you want to work
with. If you need help finding the list page or the DB system, see Listing DB Systems - Using the Console.
The details page opens and displays information about the DB system.
- Select the Maintenance tab.
- To edit the maintenance window settings, do the following on the
Maintenance tab:
- In the Maintenance window section, click Edit. The Edit Maintenance Window pane that appears.
- In the Maintenance day of the week and Maintenance window
start time (UTC) fields, select the day of the week and time for
the DB System maintenance.Note
Do not set the maintenance window start time too near to the automatic backup window start time. The maintenance cannot start if a conflicting operation such as an automatic backup is currently running. It has to wait until the conflicting operation completes. If the conflicting operation does not complete within two hours of the maintenance window start time, the maintenance will be skipped and it will try again in the next maintenance window. - From the Schedule Type list, select one of the following:
- Early: To perform an upgrade when the current version is deprecated.
- Regular: (Default) To perform an upgrade when the current version becomes unavailable.
- From the Version Preference list, select one of the
following:
- Oldest: (Default) Selects the oldest available MySQL version, in the selected version track, based on the current version used by the DB System. For example, if your DB System uses 8.4.4, and 8.4.7 is the most recent, your DB System will be upgraded to 8.4.5, the oldest available version in that track.
- Second newest: Selects the second newest MySQL version available in the selected version track. For example, if you are on 8.4.4, and 8.4.7 is the most recent, your DB System will be upgraded to 8.4.6, the second-newest version in that track.
- Newest: Selects the latest MySQL version available in the selected version track. For example, if you are on 8.4.4, and 8.4.7 is the most recent version, your DB System will be upgraded to 8.4.7, the newest version in that track.
- From the Version track preference list, select one of the
following:
- Long term support: MySQL LTS versions.
- Innovation: MySQL Innovation versions. Provides access to the latest features and bug fixes.
- Follow: (Default) Remain on the current MySQL version track.
Note
Using the maintenance policy to automatically upgrade across version tracks is not recommended. Any such upgrade should be planned carefully and run manually. There are many differences between MySQL 8.0.x and MySQL 9.x, for example. - Click Update.Maintenance window settings are updated.
- In the Maintenance window section, click Edit.
- (Optional) To start a database version upgrade, do the following on the
Maintenance tab:
- In the DB system information section, click Edit next to
the Database version field. The Edit database version pane appears.
- Select the database version to upgrade to.
- Click Update.The DB system starts upgrading. It enters the
UPDATINGstate while it is being upgraded.
- In the DB system information section, click Edit next to
the Database version field.
