Generate an AWR Report
An AWR report contains performance statistics on database activity between two points in time – two snapshots. This can be used for problem detection and self-tuning purposes. For example, you can compare database statistics captured during a period of poor performance and compare it with normal baseline performance to identify and diagnose problems. Because AWR Hub provides access to AWR snapshots for multiple databases, you can compare performance statistics across your database fleet by generating reports for individual databases.
Typical Use Cases
- Track and analyze SQL plan changes for workloads within a single database
- Track and analyze SQL plan changes for workloads across multiple databases
- Understand past and present workload (SQL) performance over the available snapshot retention period.
- Build custom dashboards to plot SQL performance statistics, database waits, CPU usage history, connections established, etc.
Create an AWR Report
In AWR Hub, use the Warehouse filter to select the snapshot source for the report. To generate a report for an earlier period, select a Bring Your Own Warehouse that contains snapshots for that period. For information about selecting the snapshot source, see Use AWR Hub.
- On accessing AWR Hub, click the Actions menu for a database, and then select Generate AWR report.
- In the Generate Automatic Workload Repository report panel, select a Snapshot start time (UTC).
The date entered is used to query snapshots in the 24-hour time range following that date, and the AWR report is restricted to a one-day range. The available snapshots are then listed in Start snapshot and End snapshot.
- Select snapshots in Start snapshot and End snapshot.
- Click Download to generate the report in HTML format.
Generate Reports in AWR Explorer
For a report covering a larger time window than the 24-hour range available directly from AWR Hub, use AWR Explorer. The available range depends on the snapshots retained for the selected database.
In AWR Hub, open the database row Actions menu and select Launch AWR Explorer. In AWR Explorer, open the Reports menu and select AWR. The menu also provides SQL and ASH (Active Session History) report options. For more information, see Use the AWR Explorer.
