Working with Version Variables

Version variables allow dynamic references to versions, which can change over time. Data Creator, Data Manager, and Application Administrator role users can create version variables to refer to different versions over time. User variables are managed by these users for their own personal use. Standard variables are managed by Data Manager users for public use by all users. System variables are managed by Application Administrators for system integration purposes.

A version may be assigned to multiple variables but any variable may only have one version assigned. A variable may also have no versions assigned but it is not recommended for variables that are saved with user metadata objects such as queries, compares, and exports.

In all areas of Oracle Data Relationship Management, a version variable may be used in the same manner as a version name. Using version variables, you can also:

  • Quickly find a version in a large list of versions.

  • Save version variables with queries, compares, imports, blenders, and exports.
