Configuring Display of the Save Password Dialog

Administrators can enable a Save password dialog that displays to EPM Cloud users when signing in to Oracle Smart View for Office.

Once enabled, the Save password dialog is displayed the first time a enters their user name and password in the Login dialog.

In the Save password dialog, users choose an option:

  • Got it—Users may choose the Got it option to save the password. On future logins to Smart View, users can then choose to populate the user name and password fields automatically, and then click the Go button in the Login dialog.

  • Never—Users may choose the Never option and continue to enter their credentials each time they sign in.
  • X—Users may choose to close the Save Password dialog by clicking the X button in the top right corner of the dialog. This will allow them to make this decision again on the next login attempt.

    Note:

Clicking the X (Close) button on three login attempts will cause the Save password dialog to stop displaying from the fourth login attempt and onward.

Note:

Password saving is supported for EPM Cloud data sources only.

Administrators enable password saving using these registry values:

  • Smart View

    Key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HyperionSmartView\Options

    Name: PasswordManagerEnabled

Value: 1 (to enable). Default is 0 (zero).

    Type: REG_DWORD

  • Microsoft Edge

    Key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge

    Name: PasswordManagerEnabled

Value: 1 (to enable). Default is 0 (zero).

    Type: REG_DWORD

When either or both the Registry values are set to 1, the Save password dialog will display. If both keys are present in Registry Editor, the Smart View setting will override Edge setting.

Table 2-3 shows you what to expect when setting the PasswordManagerEnabled values in the Smart View Options and the Edge keys.

Administrators should determine the password strategy that you will employ and then use your institution's procedures for distributing these options to your users. The default is not display the Save password dialog.

Note:

  • There is no option in the Smart View interface for enabling password saving. This feature must be enabled using the registry values noted above.
  • Oracle recommends that only administrators set registry values.
  • WebView2 must be enabled on each individual user's Smart View installation. On each user's computer, in the Health Check dialog, ensure that the WebView2 Runtime option is set to either Enable for UI or Enable for All.
  • With WebView2 and the Save password dialog enabled, and using a shared connection to connect to an OCI data source, the Save password dialog is not displayed.

Workaround: Connect to the OCI data source using a private connection and save the password when prompted. Disconnect or close Excel. Then, log in using the shared connection.
