Exporting 1099 Data to a Text File

Access the Work with 1099 Export to Text form.

To export 1099 data to a text file:

  1. Select Export from the Form menu.

This action calls the batch program Export 1099 Electronic Work File to CSV (R8904515OW), which extracts data from the F04515OW table and creates the IRSTAX.txt file to the defined location.

  2. Click OK on the Export 1099 Electronic Work File - Information form.

The text file is created in either the B9\{pathcode}\export\ folder or the \\EnterpriseServerName\PathCode\export folder, depending on whether you are using a Microsoft Windows or web client, and is named IRSTAX.txt. If you are on a Microsoft Windows client and are on a previous release, for example, E190 or E191, then the pathcode folder will fall under the E1 directory. The IRS requires this name for electronic filing.

You can export the IRSTAX.txt file to the desired location. To export the text file to the user-defined location, you must enter the location in the processing option for the Export 1099 Electronic Media Work File program (P04515A). When you choose to write the file at a desired location, the form reflects the processing option value that you have entered. You can also override the value entered in the processing option. If you leave the processing option or the location on the form blank, then the text file will be generated at a default location \B9\Export\IRSTAX.txt.

  3. To verify the 1099 data, print or review the contents of the text file using a text editor program such as Microsoft Notepad.
