In this 60-minute Oracle-by-Example (OBE), you will learn how
to create an orchestration (or notification) message that
contains formatted text, such as text that is bold, in italics,
and in the color and size of your preference.
Starting with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools Release 9.2.6.3,
you can create orchestration and notification messages that
include formatted text, tables, images, and links that are
interspersed with the text. In this OBE, you will create a
notification message with formatted text and images. You will
also dispatch that notification so you can see what the message
recipient would see. All the rich formatting features used in
these exercises apply to orchestration messages, too. In fact,
if you prefer, you can complete these exercises using an
orchestration message step instead of a notification. You can
then create an orchestration with that message step and run it
to send the email to yourself.
In this OBE, you will learn how to:
Create an orchestration (or notification) message that
contains formatted text, such as bold, italic, color, and
size.
Copy and paste formatted text from an outside source, such
as Microsoft Word.
Preview the message from within Orchestrator Studio.
Add a table and an image.
Add an application link and learn the concept of a
“placeholder.”
Create a message template and add that template to the
message.
Dispatch the message as a notification.
Scenario
Imagine that you work for a company that has several managers
who are responsible for health and safety. Health and safety
incidents are recorded in the EnterpriseOne Health and Safety
Incidents application, and the managers need to review the
incidents and take action. But from time to time the managers
need a reminder to check on the status of the incidents, so you
will create a nicely formatted message as a reminder to them,
and include a convenient link in the message to launch the
Health and Safety Incidents application.
What Do You Need?
To perform the steps in this OBE, you will need:
Access to a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne environment with Tools
Release 9.2.6.3 or later. JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Trial
Edition running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is suitable,
but you can use any environment with the proper Tools release.
Security access to use Orchestrator Studio.
If you choose to complete these exercises using a
notification message that is deployed to the notification
list, then your EnterpriseOne system does not need an SMTP
email server.
If you choose to build an orchestration message or a
notification that is deployed to email, then your
EnterpriseOne server will need an SMTP email server
configured.
Alternatively, if your EnterpriseOne system does not have an
SMTP email server configured, you can send the message to the
Work Center tab in the Message Center application (P980051X).
Make sure that the Address Book number you use does not have
an email address associated with it in Who’s Who.
Create
a Notification Message that Contains Formatted Text
In this exercise you will create a new notification message,
add some text, apply formatting to the text, and preview it.
Sign in to the Orchestrator Studio.
From the home page, select Notifications.
Note: If you are completing these exercises
by creating a message instead of a notification, then select
Messages from the home page. The remaining steps are similar
for creating notifications and messages, but with slight
difference.
Click New to create a new notification.
In the Name field, enter: Incident
Check-up Reminder
In the Description field enter: Notification
to Health and Safety Managers to remind them to check
incidents.
Expand the Message section by clicking the triangle icon.
In the Subject field, enter: Reminder: Check Your
Incidents
This is the subject line of your message.
Click Save.
In the body box, enter (or copy/paste) the following text
for the message body:
Health and safety are always first here at Safe-T
Manufacturing!
This is your weekly reminder to review your health and
safety incidents. They are recorded in the Health and
Safety Incidents system. You can review them by clicking
here :
Please review the incidents in your region and take
appropriate action to document them and ensure they are
addressed according to our company guidelines.
Thank you for helping to keep the Safe-T Manufacturing
safety record among the best in the industry.
Regards,
Mayu B. Sayf
Vice President, Employee Health and Safety
Note: Copy/paste may not preserve the line
breaks between lines. Place your cursor at the end of the
sentences and press Enter to make your message match the
message shown above.
Click Save. Your Notifications page should
look like this:
Incident
Check up Reminder Notification
So far this is the type of message you would have created with
plain text. Next let’s proceed to add some rich formatting.
Highlight the first sentence of the message:
Health and safety are always first here at Safe-T
Manufacturing!
From the formatting toolbar, click the Paragraph drop-down
list and select the Heading 1 style to apply it to the
highlighted sentence.
Highlight the last line of the message:
Vice President, Employee Health and Safety
From the formatting toolbar, click the Italic control
to italicize the line.
Click Save.
Click the Preview button to see a preview
of your formatted message. You can toggle between the two
icons in the top-right corner to switch between a full-size
preview and a narrow preview to simulate what the message
might look like on a mobile phone.
The other text formatting controls on the toolbar behave
similarly to common word processing editors. If you wish, go
ahead and experiment with them on your own. Use the Undo icon
at the top right of the page or the Undo icon in the
formatting toolbar to reverse any formatting actions. When you
are ready, proceed to the next exercise.
Copy
and Paste Formatted Text from Another Source
In this exercise you will learn how to copy and paste formatted
text from another source, such as a Microsoft Word or PowerPoint
document, or even a web page. This capability is useful when you
have some formatted text already prepared, or perhaps you find
it easier to work with other programs to apply advanced
formatting.
Open a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or
PowerPoint.
Create some simple text and format it using the editor’s
formatting features, for example, as shown in the screenshot
below:
Note how the text is copied into your message, including its
formatting.
Click Save.
Dispatch
Your Notification Message
Sign in to the EnterpriseOne web client. You can do this
easily from Orchestrator Studio by clicking the Tools
menu, which is in the upper-right corner of most
pages, and choosing JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. EnterpriseOne
opens in a new web browser tab.
Leave Orchestrator Studio open in the first browser tab.
From the drop-down list at your user name in the upper-right
corner of the EnterpriseOne Home page, select Manage
Notifications, My Subscriptions.
Choose the notification name that you used to create the
notification in Orchestrator Studio:
“Incident Check-up Reminder” Note: If your notification name does not
appear in the list, you might have to sign out of
EnterpriseOne and sign back in.
You can accept all the default values and click Save.
Click Close to return to the
EnterpriseOne Home page.
Switch back to the Notification page in Orchestrator Studio.
Click Test.
Turn on the Dispatch Notifications option.
Click Execute.
Switch back to the EnterpriseOne web client and click Notification
List (the bell icon) in the menu bar.
Click to open your notification message. If you don’t see
the message, click Refresh at the bottom
left of the Notification List window.
In this exercise you will add a table and an image to the
message you created in the first exercise.
Open your Incident Check-up Reminder notification in
Orchestrator Studio.
Place the cursor at the top left of the body (to the left of
the word “Health”) and press Enter to add a
new line at the top of your message.
Place the cursor at the beginning of the new line and click
Insert Table in the formatting bar.
A grid appears to enable you to select the number of rows and
columns that you want to add to your table.
Move your cursor over the grid to select one row and three
columns as shown below: Insert
Table
A table with one row and three columns appears centered in
your message. A table menu bar also appears.
In the Table properties window, complete these steps:
Choose Solid from the Border Style drop-down list.
Enter 100% in the Dimensions Width field.
Table properties
These specifications set the width of the table to 100
percent of your message body with three equally spaced
columns.
Note: You can also specify the width and
height in explicit units such as pixels (px), inches (in),
centimeters (cm), and so on.
Click to place the cursor in the first cell. The table
formatting menu bar appears. Note that the menu provides
options for adding, deleting, merging, and formatting rows,
columns, and cells.
Choose the Cell properties option.
In the Dimensions Width field, enter 33%.
Under Table cell text alignment select Align cell
text to the left. Click Save.
Click to place the cursor in the middle cell . In the
Dimensions Width field, enter 33%. Under Table
cell text alignment choose Align cell text to the
center. Click Save.
Click to place the cursor in the last cell. In the
Dimensions Width field, enter 33%. Under Table
cell text alignment choose Align cell text to the
right. Click Save.
Next you will add some content to each cell to create a
message header that will look like this :
Locate an image to copy and paste into the first cell. You
can use the image from below or any image you like. Copy the
image onto your clipboard.
Example ImageTip: You will have some control to resize
the image after you paste it into your message, but you will
have better control if you edit and size the image in a word
processing program and then copy and paste the image from
there. Images that have a width of about 1 inch work well
for most messages.
Note: You can add an image to a message by
using any of these methods:
Copy from another source and paste into the message,
which you are doing here.
From the formatting menu bar, select Insert Image to
browse for an image in your file system.
From the formatting menu bar, select the drop-down
arrow next to Insert Image to specify the location of an
image file as a URL.
Click to place the cursor in the first cell and paste the
image.
From the alignment menu bar, select Left aligned
image.
Click to place the cursor in the middle cell and type : Safe-T Manufacturing
Use any formatting option from the formatting menu bar to
change the size and color of the text.
Click to place the cursor in the third cell and type : Innovation for a safe world.
Click Save to save your notification.
Click Preview to see how your message is
progressing .
You can optionally click the Test button
to dispatch your notification and see it in the notification
list in the EnterpriseOne web client.
Tip: You can use the table feature to add
tables of data anywhere in your message. Tables can also be
useful to control the horizontal and vertical layout of text
in your message, for example, the header layout that you set
in this message by using a table.
Create
a Message Template and Add It to the Message
Message templates use the media object template framework and
are created and stored in the EnterpriseOne system. In this
exercise, you will use the EnterpriseOne Media Object Templates
application (P98TMPL) to create a message template. You will
create a template for a standard company footer with a copyright
notice. Then you will return to Orchestrator Studio to edit your
message and add the template to the bottom of your message.
Sign in to the EnterpriseOne web client.
If your previous session has expired you might have to sign in
again.
Use the Fast Path to access P98TMPL.
On the Work With Media Object Templates form, click Add.
On the Media Object Template Revisions form, complete the
following fields:
Template Name: Company Message Footer
Description: Copyright footer for messages
In the body box, type three hyphens in a row: - - -
This is a shortcut that adds a horizontal bar across the
message body.
In the body box, type the following text: Copyright 2022 Safe-T Manufacturing. All rights
reserved.
Notice that this editor has the same text formatting features
as Orchestrator Studio. You can format the text as you prefer.
Your message template should look like this:
Return to the notification in Orchestrator Studio.
From the formatting bar, select Template (at the far right
of the bar).
Select the message template you just created: Company
Message Footer.
The formatted text of the message template appears in the
window.
From the options at the top right of the page, select Insert
at Bottom.
Note that the other options enable you to similarly insert the
message template at the top of your message or at the point
where your cursor was last placed.
Scroll to the bottom of your message and see that the
message template has been inserted.
Click Save.
Click Preview or Test to
deploy the notification and see how your message is
progressing.
Create
an Application Link and Add the Link to the Message
In this exercise you will create a link to the EnterpriseOne
Health and Safety Incidents application (P54HS00). Then you will
add that link to the body of the message using a “placeholder”
so that the message recipients can launch the application from
the link in the message.
Note: In previous releases you could add links
to messages, but all links appeared at the bottom of the
message.
With the Rich Formatting of Messages feature, you can add links
anywhere in the message body.
Open your Incident Check-up Reminder
notification in Orchestrator Studio.
Scroll down to your message body and click the triangle icon
to expand the Actions section.
Click Add next to Application Links.
In the Application Link ID field, type: Manage
Incidents. Note: You cannot change this link ID after
you click Apply, so be sure to choose a short, descriptive
link ID and type it carefully. In this case, you are naming
the link ID “Manage Incidents” because the link will launch
the EnterpriseOne Health and Safety Manage Incidents
application.
Click Apply.
In the Application field, type P54HS00.
From the Form drop-down list, select W54HS00A –
Manage Incidents.
You can retain the default values in the other fields. Notice
that the link text defaults to the name of the EnterpriseOne
form, “Manage Incidents.” You can change this link text. The
text you enter here is what the message recipient sees in the
message body.
Click Save.
Scroll up to the message body and place the cursor at the
end of the sentence that says: You can review them by clicking here:
From the formatting bar, open the Placeholder drop-down list
and select Manage Incidents.Link . Notice that this is the
same name that you gave your link ID in Step 4. The link
placeholder is inserted at your cursor. When the message is
sent, this placeholder will be replaced with the text you
provided in the Link Text field in Step 7.
Click Save.
Congratulations! Your formatted message is now complete.
Click Test, then click Execute to
dispatch your notification.
Sign in to the EnterpriseOne web client to view it from the
Notification List.
Create an orchestration (or notification) message that
contains formatted text, such as text that is bold, in
italics, and in the color and size of your preference.
Preview the message from within Orchestrator Studio.
Copy and paste formatted text from another source, such as
Microsoft Word.
Add a table and an image.
Create a message template and add that template to the
message.
Add an application link and learn the concept of a
“placeholder.”
