Balance Sheet Case Study: Reverse the Sign of Account Balances by Using a Calculation

When you created your row definition, you did not select the Reverse Sign check box because you do not want to reverse the sign for all of the accounts in your data selection. You want to reverse the sign of only the liability accounts.

You can reverse the sign of the liability accounts in the layout by applying a calculation to the account balances. Because you want to apply the calculation to only some of the accounts in your balance sheet, you must first complete the steps to:

  • Create a copy of the table that you have created and paste the copy into the layout to create a second table.

  • Filter the results in each of the tables so the one shows only asset accounts and the other shows only liability accounts.

You set up the Current Actual, Last Month End, and Last Year end column definitions to retrieve account balances from the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne tables. These columns do not have calculations applied to them, so you can use a simple formula to reverse the sign of the account balances in those columns.

You set up the Change This Month and Change This Year columns in the Layout Editor as calculated columns. Because you have already applied a calculation to the account balances in those columns, you must create a nested function to use both the subtraction formula that you already set up, and to use a multiplication formula to reverse the account balance sign.

In this section of the case study, you will:

  • Copy the layout table to create a second table.

  • Filter the table results.

  • Reverse the sign of OVFS account balances columns.

  • Reverse the sign of calculation columns using a nested formula.
