Consolidated Income Statement Case Study Task: Hide a Column in the Layout

You placed the LOD Sequence element in your grid so that you could use it to sequence your accounts. However, you do not want that element to be visible on your statement output. You can apply formatting to hide the column from view.

To hide a column in the layout, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the column heading in the grid.

For this section of the case study, select the Lod Sequence column heading.

  2. Enter 0 in the Label field in the Misc section on the Properties tab.

You change the value in this field to a single character so that the header text does not take up much room in the layout.

  3. Set the background and text colors to white:

    1. In the Appearance section of the Properties tab, click the field for the Background Color.

    2. On the Color Picker window, select the box for White and then click OK.

Note: Do not select the white box that has an X in the box. The white color is not used in the statement output if you select that box.
    3. In the Font section of the Properties tab, click the field for the Color field.

    4. On the Color Picker window, select the box for White and then click OK.

Note: Do not select the white box that has an X in the box. The white color is not used in the statement output if you select that box.
  4. Select the cells in the column and repeat Step 3.

  5. Change the width of the column so that it does not take up much space in the table grid:

    1. Select the cells in the columns.

You must select the table cells, not the table header or footer.

    2. In the Appearance section of the Properties tab, click the field for Width, and enter 2.

Leave the default measurement of px (pixel).

  6. Click the Save icon to save your layout.

Caution: If you need to exit the BI Publisher Layout Editor, do not click the Sign Out icon or you will log out of the server. Instead, click the Close icon (the X in the upper right corner of the window) to exit the window.

After you complete the steps in this section, your layout should look like the following image:
