Working with MCP Tools

The MCP server exposes the following tools for use by an LLM client:

  • mcp_get_openapi_spec_details
  • get_psft_auth_token
  • mcp_execute_rest_api

mcp_get_openapi_spec_details

Use this tool to retrieve details of the OpenAPI specifications configured with the MCP server. The LLM client uses this information to understand the available Application Services APIs and their usage.

get_psft_auth_token

Use this tool to generate a PSTOKEN authentication token.

The tool accepts the following primary input parameters:
  • CLIENT_ID
  • CLIENT_SECRET
  • AUTH_URL

The MCP server connects to the specified authentication URL using the supplied client credentials, generates an authentication token, and returns it to the LLM client.

For PSTOKEN-based authentication, use an authentication URL similar to:

http://<pia_host_name>:<port_name>/psp/ps/?cmd=login

For PSTOKEN-based authentication with PeopleSoft Chat UI, the PeopleSoft user interface generates the PSTOKEN, which is then used for the transaction.

mcp_execute_rest_api

Use this tool to invoke a configured Application Services REST API. The tool returns the API response to the LLM client.

Note:

You must generate an authentication token using the get_psft_auth_token tool before using the mcp_execute_rest_api tool to invoke a configured Application Services REST API.
