Guidelines on Using Configurable Search for Classic Components

Follow these guidelines when you plan to configure search for classic components:

• By default, the delivered (new) classic search page is displayed instead of the old standard component search page without any additional configuration on your part.

• If search is enabled for a component (that is, a valid search record is configured for the component and a search key exists), which search page gets displayed is based on these conditions:

  • If a custom search page (where page type is set to Search Page on the Use tab of the Page Properties dialog box in Application Designer) has been added to the component definition, the custom search page is displayed.

  • If configurable search has been configured for the content reference, then the delivered (new) classic search page is displayed reflecting that configuration. If configurable search has not been configured for the content reference, then the delivered (new) classic search page is displayed in its default state.

• If a component is not search enabled (that is, the component search record has no search keys and the Update/Display check box on the Use tab of the Component Properties dialog box is not selected), the system directly loads the transaction page, which is similar to the functionality prior to PeopleTools 8.60.

Using the ForceSearch Request Parameter

Use the optional ForceSearch request parameter to execute a search when accessing a classic component through a URL. When you include ForceSearch=Y in the URL, the system executes the search using the search key values supplied as request parameters, even when you supply only partial search keys.

Selected	The system displays the search results on the search page, even when the search returns only one result.
Deselected	When all search keys are supplied and the search returns one result, the system opens the transaction page directly. When partial search keys are supplied and the search returns multiple results, the system displays the results on the search page.

For example, append the following query string to a Job Data component URL to supply search key values and execute the search:

?PAGE=JOB_DATA1&ACTION=U&EMPLID=KU0209A&EMPL_RCD=0&ForceSearch=Y

When Force Search Processing is selected and the URL omits ForceSearch=Y, the system executes the search only if the URL supplies values for all search keys. Otherwise, the system displays the search page without executing the search.

Note:

When the ForceSearch request parameter is set to Yes, classic configurable search follows the search behavior prior to PeopleTools 8.60. Fluid configurable search does not support this parameter.
