Fix a Semantic Model's Database Names Used by Initialization Blocks and Variables

If you loaded the deployed model created with Data Modeler into Semantic Modeler, then the new semantic model might contain physical databases used by variables and initialization blocks that weren’t renamed to user-friendly names.

After loading the deployed model, the new semantic model contains one physical database for each connection. Any physical databases that Semantic Modeler couldn’t rename display as VDBx, where x equals the number assigned to the database. For example, VDB1 and VDB2.

You can rename these databases with any names that help you identify them. For example, Enterprise DW Init Block.

  1. On the Home page, click Navigator and then click Semantic Models.
  2. In the Semantic Models page, click a semantic model to open it.
  3. Click Physical Layer.
  4. Locate and double-click the physical database that you want to rename (for example, VDB1).
  5. Optional: If you want to use the connection name as the database's new name, then click the Connection Pools tab, click a connection, and then click Detail View.
  6. Optional: Go to the Connection field and in the value, locate and copy the connection name (for example, from 'system'.'Enterprise DW', copy Enterprise DW).
  7. In the database page, click the General tab, go to the Name field, delete the value, and either enter a name or paste the connection name that you copied (for example, Enterprise DW).
  8. Click Save.
