Apply a Reference Layer to a Map

You can add reference layers that don't display any data to overlay a map visualization. You might add a reference layer to show how the path of a storm impacts customer locations displayed on the map.

A static reference layer with no data is defined in a custom GEOJSON file that an administrator or user with the Manage Maps permission must add to the Reference Layers section in Maps in the Console. See Add GeoJSON Custom Map Layers.

  1. On your home page, hover over a workbook, click Actions, and select Open.
  2. Click the map visualization to select it.
  3. Click Properties, then click Layers Layers property tab icon.
  4. In the Layers row, click Add Layer, and select Add Reference Layer.
  5. Under the new reference layer, in the Map Layer row, click None and select the layer that you want to display from the list.
  6. Click Save.
