About Canvas Layout Templates

In Oracle Analytics, you can use, create, and share canvas layout templates so that you and other authors maintain a consistent canvas design across workbooks.

Oracle Analytics provides the ready-to-use layout templates called Filter Left and Filter Top, which are available for all authors to use in different workbooks.

If you have the Create and Edit Shared Layouts permission, you can modify these ready-to-use templates and save the modified version as a custom template. You can also create new canvas layout templates from scratch to suit your organization’s needs. If you have the Manage Layouts, Themes, and Images permission, you can manage the layout templates in the Console. Your administrator manages permissions.

To create a layout template, you add visualization types to a canvas and arrange them in your preferred design. You can use any visualization type from the Visualize pane in the Data panel in your layout, except for custom visualizations.

Any data you add to a visualization isn’t retained as part of the layout template when you save it. However, any text you include in a text box, or image you include as a background does become part of the layout template when you save it. You can only use shared images or image URLs in a template. Additionally, any styling you apply to the visualizations such as a background color, border, or shadow, is saved as part of the template.

Once you save a canvas layout template, it becomes available for other authors to use in their workbooks.

If you design the canvas layout to respond to different sized devices, when you save it as shared layout, the layout template retains the screen size settings. See Design Canvas Layouts for Different Screen Sizes.
