Create a Metric Heatmap Layer on a Map

Use a heatmap layer to show the intensity of a measure value for each data point on a map visualization.

When you add a measure column for Color in the Grammar pane, you can change the type of aggregation to apply. The aggregation type defines how the metric values for overlapping or identical data points on the map are combined when mapping them to the colors used in the heatmap.

  1. On your home page, hover over a workbook, click Actions, and select Open.
  2. In the Data panel, click Visualizations Visualizations pane icon, then drag the Map visualization Map visualization icon to the canvas.
  3. Click Data Data pane icon, then drag one or more attribute columns containing map-related data to Category (Location) in the Grammar pane.
  4. Drag a measure column to Color.
  5. Click Properties, then click Layers Map layers icon.
  6. In the Layer Type row, click Auto (Point) and select Heatmap.
  7. In the Intensity row, click 3 and move the slider to the right or enter a value greater than 3 to increase the color intensity.
  8. Click Save.
