5 Create assessment

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Migration assessment lets you create the assessment and analyze the best possible method for database migration. The assessment process consists of several key steps to ensure a successful migration. During this process, each step reviews important details such as migration method recommendations, analysis of migration data, and evaluation of the database configuration. The assessment also includes preliminary migration testing to help identify potential issues in advance and facilitate a smooth migration experience.

During this assessment process:
  • Provide the inputs as to various aspects of your existing source and target databases including the high-level meta-data and specifics about your environment and infrastructure which may affect the applicability of the options available to you to perform the actual migration.
  • The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Migration (OCI) Assessment is the entry point to all migrations and upon successful analysis and conclusion that Database Migration Service is applicable. Upon successful conclusion, the actual migration operation can be started immediately.
  • The step 6th in the assessment is a part of advanced steps. For example, you can migrate a table and the migration is completed for that one table.
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Database Migration triggers additional assessment components to refine the specific settings and/or constraints to ensure the success of a migration. Examples of such components are:
    • Checking for incompatibilities between the source database and the target database.
    • Checking for misconfiguration of database parameters and user privileges.
    • Configuring the inclusion and/or exclusion of various database objects to permit the migration, and so on.
