Sumo Logic

Before You Begin

Introduction

This document describes how to configure Oracle Identity Cloud Service to provide Single Sign-On (SSO) for Sumo Logic using SAML.

About Sumo Logic

Sumo Logic is a cloud-based log management and analytics service that leverages machine-generated big data to deliver real-time IT insights. Sumo Logic’s architecture features an elastic petabyte scale platform that collects, manages, and analyzes enterprise log data, reducing millions of log lines into operational and security insights in real-time.

After integrating Sumo Logic with Oracle Identity Cloud Service:

  • Users can access Sumo Logic using their Oracle Identity Cloud Service login credentials.
  • Users can start Sumo Logic using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Apps console.
  • Admins can assign and revoke user access to the Sumo Logic app using the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console.

What Do You Need?

  • An Oracle Identity Cloud Service account with authorization rights to manage apps and users (Identity Domain Administrator or Application Administrator).
  • A Sumo Logic account with authorization rights to configure federated authentication.
  • Make sure that the email ID of each user in Sumo Logic matches the primary email ID of the Oracle Identity Cloud Service account.

Configuring the Sumo Logic App in Oracle Identity Cloud Service

Use this section to register and activate the Sumo Logic app, and then assign users to the app.

Prerequisite Steps

A verified account type and domain ID are required before you can register and activate the Sumo Logic app. You obtain these values from Sumo Logic.

  1. Log in as an administrator to Sumo Logic using the URL: https://<Account_Type>.sumologic.com/ui/index.html that you received in an email from Sumo Logic. The Sumo Logic home page appears.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click Exit Setup Wizard.

  3. In the header menu, hover over Manage, select Security, and then click SAML.

  4. On the Configure SAML 2.0 page, copy the account type and domain ID from the Assertion Consumer URL: https://<Account_Type>.sumologic.com/sumo/saml/consume/<Domain_ID>.

Tip: Use these values later during Sumo Logic registration in the "Registering and Activating the Sumo Logic App" section.

Registering and Activating the Sumo Logic App

Note: These are the values that you obtained by performing the steps in the "Prerequisite Steps" section.

  5. Click Download Signing Certificate.

Tip: Use this file later during the Sumo Logic configuration in the "Configuring SSO for Sumo Logic" section.

  6. Click Download Identity Provider Metadata. To learn about other methods you can use to access SAML metadata, see Access SAML Metadata.

Tip: Use this file later during the Sumo Logic configuration in the "Configuring SSO for Sumo Logic" section.

  7. Click Finish. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

  8. Click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

Assigning Users to the Sumo Logic App

  1. On the Sumo Logic app page in Oracle Identity Cloud Service, select Users, and then click Assign. The Assign Users window appears.

  2. Select users that you want to assign to Sumo Logic, and then click OK. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message stats that the Sumo Logic app is assigned to the users that you selected.

Configuring SSO for Sumo Logic

  1. Access Sumo Logic as an administrator using the URL: https://<Account_Type>.sumologic.com/ui/index.html. The Sumo Logic home page appears.

  2. In the upper-right corner, click Exit Setup Wizard.

  3. In the header menu, hover over Manage, select Security.

  4. On the Global Security Settings page, click SAML, and then click Configure.

  5. On the Configure SAML 2.0 page, use the table to update the federated authentication attributes, and then click Save.

    Attribute Value
Configuration Name Enter a name for configuration, for example: Oracle Identity Cloud Service.
Issuer Enter the Entity ID/Issuer URL. Use the metadata file that you downloaded earlier to obtain the Entity ID/Issuer URL. The Entity ID/Issuer URL information is located in the first line of the metadata. See the "Registering and Activating the Sumo Logic App" section.
Authn Request URL Enter the Sign-in URL/SSO Endpoint: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/fed/v1/idp/sso.
X.509 Certificate Paste the certificate into the X.509 Certificate box. You downloaded the certificate during Sumo Logic registration in Oracle Identity Cloud Service. See the "Registering and Activating the Sumo Logic App" section.
Login Path Enter a unique identifier for your organization, for example: yourcompanynameSumo. Note: Use this value in the URL used to access Sumo Logic when SSO is initiated from the app. See the "Verifying Service Provider Initiated SSO from Sumo Logic" section.

Verifying the Integration

Use this section to verify that SSO works when initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service (IdP Initiated SSO) and Sumo Logic (SP Initiated SSO).

Verifying Identity Provider Initiated SSO from Oracle Identity Cloud Service

  1. Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service My Profile console using the URL: https://<IDCS-Service-Instance>.identity.oraclecloud.com/ui/v1/myconsole.

  2. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the Sumo Logic app. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a shortcut to Sumo Logic under My Apps.

  3. Click Sumo Logic. The Sumo Logic home page appears.

  4. In the upper-right corner of the header, confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both Sumo Logic and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from Oracle Identity Cloud Service works.

Verifying Service Provider Initiated SSO from Sumo Logic

  1. Access Sumo Logic using the login URL: https://<Account_Type>.sumologic.com/sumo/saml/post/<Login_Path>. You are redirected to the Oracle Identity Cloud Service login page.

Tip: The login path value is configured earlier during Sumo Logic configuration in the "Configuring SSO for Sumo Logic" section.

  2. Log in using credentials for a user that is assigned to the Sumo Logic app. The Sumo Logic home page appears.

  3. In the upper-right corner of the header, confirm that the user that is logged in is the same for both Sumo Logic and Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

This confirms that SSO that is initiated from Sumo Logic works.

Troubleshooting

Use this section to locate solutions to common integration issues.

Known Issues

Sumo Logic displays the message, "User user@example.com not found"

Cause: The email attribute sent by Oracle Identity Cloud Service during SSO doesn't match any existing user in Sumo Logic.

Solution: Ensure that the user that you assign to the Sumo Logic app has an account in both Oracle Identity Cloud Service and Sumo Logic with the same email address.

Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays the message, "You are not authorized to access the app. Contact your system administrator."

Cause 1: The SAML 2.0 integration between the Oracle Identity Cloud Service Sumo Logic app and Sumo Logic is deactivated.

Solution 1:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select Sumo Logic.
  • In the App Details section, click Activate, and then click Activate Application. Oracle Identity Cloud Service displays a confirmation message.

Cause 2: The administrator revokes access for the user at the same time that the user tries to access the Sumo Logic app using Oracle Identity Cloud Service.

Solution 2:

  • Access the Oracle Identity Cloud Service administration console, select Applications, and then select Sumo Logic.
  • In the App Details section, select Users, and then click Assign to re-assign the user.
