Examples of Enabling and Using Frequently Refreshed Data in the Semantic Model

Here are few examples that show how to enable and use the frequently refreshed data in the semantic model.

Create a Data Augmentation and Enable Frequent Data Refresh

Create a data augmentation extension on Dim – AP Invoices Details, a pre-built degenerate dimension in the Financials – AP Invoices subject area.

  1. Create a dataset augmentation type.
    Dataset augmentation type

  2. Using the Sandbox framework, extend a degenerate dimension. In the Financials – AP Invoices subject area, select Fact – Fins – AP Invoice Schedule.
    Perform Action dialog

  3. Extend the Dim – AP Invoices Details degenerate dimension.
    Manage Extension option

  4. Enable frequent data refresh on the applicable functional area, which is Accounts Payables in this case.
Frequent Data Refresh dialog: Select Functional Area

  5. Enable frequent data refresh on the DW_FA_X_AP_INVOICE_CF_DS table which is the data augmentation dataset target table in this case.
Frequent Data Refresh dialog: Select Table

  6. After the Frequent Data Refresh process runs successfully, verify that the process adds an FDR Flag folder with an FDR Flag column to the Financials – AP Invoices subject area.
    FDR Flag folder

  7. Navigate to Oracle Analytics Cloud associated with your Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence instance and create a workbook using the frequently refreshed data. You can use the FDR Flag column as a filter to switch between the frequently refreshed data and non-frequently refreshed data.
Use the FDR Flag column as a filter

  8. Create a visualization with or without the FDR Flag.

Use an Existing Data augmentation and Enable Frequent Data Refresh

If you've defined augmentation that extends an entity, then you can enable frequent data refresh on the applicable functional area and table to have the ability to include the frequently refreshed data in your workbooks.

  1. Note the details of a data augmentation that extends an entity, for example AP Invoice Header.
    Extent an Entity augmentation type

  2. Enable frequent data refresh on Accounts Payables, the functional area of the AP Invoice Header extended entity in this example.
Frequent Data Refresh dialog: Select functional Area

  3. Enable frequent data refresh on DW_FA_X_AP_INVOICE_CF_EXT, the data augmentation extension target table.
Frequent Data Refresh dialog: Select Table

  4. After the frequent data refresh process runs successfully, verify that the process adds an FDR folder with an FDR Flag column to the Financials – AP Invoices subject area.
  5. Navigate to Oracle Analytics Cloud associated with your Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence instance and create a workbook using the frequently refreshed data. You can use the FDR Flag column as a filter to switch between the frequently refreshed data and non-frequently refreshed data.
