Domain Configurations
Domain mappings define how domain values from a source system are extracted, transformed, and loaded into Oracle E-Business Suite Data Intelligence.
A domain represents the set of valid, unique values for a specific attribute (column) in a relational database. In transactional applications, domains are commonly implemented as Lists of Values (LOVs), which display attribute values in the user’s session language.
Although users interact with translated values, the underlying transaction data is stored using a language-independent identifier, such as a character code or numeric ID. Each domain consists of a collection of domain members, where each member is represented by an identifier-value pair. During query execution, the stored identifier is resolved to the corresponding translated value based on the user’s session language.
In Oracle E-Business Suite Data Intelligence, domains typically have low cardinality, meaning they contain a relatively small number of unique values compared to the dimensions with which they are associated. For example, the Person dimension may contain millions of records, while the Gender domain typically contains only a few members, such as M (Male), F (Female), and U (Unknown).
In Oracle E-Business Suite Data Intelligence, the domain code (for example, the Gender Code) is stored in the corresponding dimension table as a foreign key. The translated display values are maintained in the Domain Translation table. During query execution, the stored domain code is resolved to the user-friendly value in the user’s session language.
