Enable or Disable the Sitemap Protocol

Use the Sitemap XML-based protocol to provide details to search engines about your web pages.

Search engines use web crawlers (or spiders) to explore your web site and to index pages that will be available when searches are conducted. Usually, spiders find pages from links within your site and from other sites. However, you may have pages that aren't accessible by browsing on the interface. For example, you may have pages that are accessed only when customers complete a form. Spiders can't index those pages because they're inaccessible.

Sitemap is an XML-based protocol used by major search engines, including Yahoo! and Google. The Sitemap protocol lets you identify all the web pages on your customer portal, instead of waiting for search engine spiders to find them. This includes identifying all available answer links on your site, as well as those that aren't accessible through links.

  1. Click the name of web site where you want to enable or disable Sitemap.
  2. Click the Interfaces tab.
  3. Click the menu icon for the interface that you want to update.
  4. Click Enable Sitemap or Disable Sitemap.
