Exporting Selected Metadata Objects to a Template

Granular Export enables you to perform incremental migrations by selecting individual metadata artifacts instead of exporting entire applications or dimensions.

On the Granular Export tab of the Templates page, you can choose an artifact type and select one or more objects to include in the template. You can also combine multiple artifact types in a single granular template.

The following artifact types are supported:

  • Custom Validations
  • Extracts
  • Global Connections
  • Lookup Sets
  • Node Types (including dependent artifacts such as node type converters, matching rules, and survivorship rules)
  • Policies
  • Properties
  • Subscriptions

After exporting a granular template, you can preview and import it in a target environment in the same way as standard templates. However, because granular templates may not include all dependent objects, missing dependencies are more likely and are reported as errors during template preview and import.

To export metadata objects to a template:

  1. From the Tools tile, select Templates.

    Note:

The Tools tile is visible to Service Administrators or users with the Migrations - Administer granular role only.
  2. On the Granular Export tab, use the Artifact Type drop down menu to select the type of artifact that you want to export.
  3. Select the checkboxes next to the artifacts that you want to export. You can select multiple artifacts of each type, and after you select artifacts of one type you can use the drop down menu to choose a different artifact type and select artifacts of that type.
  4. For properties and lookup sets, select the applications for which you want to export property override and lookup set values.
  5. The artifacts that you select are displayed in Selected Artifacts. Click the X next to an artifact (or deselect the checkbox in the artifact list) to remove it from the export.
  6. In Template File, enter a file name with a .json extension, and then click Export.

The template is created and downloaded to your local file system. The status of your export is displayed.

After you export metadata objects to a template file, you can preview the import and then import the template in your target environment. See Previewing Template Imports, Importing Templates, and Reviewing Import Results.
