Connection Scenarios

All your previously connected server URLs are persisted and displayed in the Server URL drop-down list. This includes the URLs you connected to manually and the URLs you connected to from a connections JSON file shared by your Service Administrator. The way the server URLs and other details are displayed or fetched is explained in the following scenarios:

  • By default, the last connection method, that is Basic Authentication or Company Sign In, will be defaulted in the Connect dialog box the next time you open it. For example, if you had selected the Company Sign In check box previously, the next time you open the Connect dialog box, the Company Sign In check box appears selected by default.

Similarly, if you had cleared the Company Sign In check box and used basic authentication method to connect, then the next time you open the Connect dialog box, the Company Sign In check box appears cleared by default.

  • By default, the last successfully connected server URL is displayed in the Server URL field.

  • If the Server URL field is populated with your desired connection, press Tab or click in the Connect dialog box to populate the related details in the Server URL, Client ID, IDCS URL, and Scope fields.
  • If there are no previously connected URLs, that is the Server URL list is empty, you can do either of the following:
    • You can enter the server URL and other details manually. Once connected, these details will be persisted the next time you try to connect to the same server.
    • Click Load Connections to load the server URL and other details from the connections JSON file shared by your Service Administrator. The details of the first server listed in the connections file are displayed by default in the Connect dialog box.
  • If you want to connect to another server that is different from the one displayed by default, click the Server URL field to view the list of all previously connected server URLs. You can search this list by typing a part of the desired URL and selecting it from the filtered matching results.
    • This list includes the persisted server URLs that you connected to previously, either manually or through the connections file shared by your Service Administrator.
    • If a server URL exists in both the persisted URLs and the connections file, then it is displayed only once in the Server URL list.
    • Select the required server URL from the list and press Tab or click in the Connect dialog box to populate the related details in the other fields.
  • If you clear the value in the Server URL field, enter a server URL, and click Load Connections, then either of the following can happen:
    • If the entered server URL exists in the connections file, its details are fetched from the connections file and then displayed in the Connect dialog box.
    • If the entered server URL does not exist in the connections file, then the other fields in the Connect dialog box remain unchanged, and you can enter the details manually.
