Editing Dimension Properties

Note:

Dimension properties must conform to guidelines listed in Naming Restrictions for Dimensions, Members, and Aliases.

To edit dimension properties:

  1. From the Home page, select Application, and then Overview.

  2. On the Application page, select the Dimensions tab.

  3. Select a cube, and then click the name of the dimension you want to edit.

  4. Click Edit dimension properties icon (Edit Dimension Properties tab).

  5. On the property page for the dimension you selected, view or modify the following properties:

    • Dimension: This field displays the name of the dimension. You cannot change the dimension name for the Account, Scenario, Version, Entity, or the Balance and Rule system dimensions. It is also not recommended to change the dimension name for the Years and Period dimensions.

    • Description: (Optional) Description of the dimension.

    • Alias Table and Alias: (Optional) Select an alias table. Enter an alternate name for the dimension.

    • Two Pass Calculation: Not applicable in Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management.

    • Apply Security: Allow security to be set on the dimension members; must be selected before assigning access rights to dimension members. Otherwise, dimensions have no security and users can access members without restriction.

    • Data Storage: Displays the data storage option selected when the dimension was created. You cannot change the data storage option once it has been set.

    • Display Option: Set application default display options for the Member Selection dialog box. See Using the Member Selector.

    • Hierarchy Type: Select a hierarchy type. Valid options are:

      • Not Set—The hierarchy type is not set.

      • Stored—Stores data values of members. Members of stored hierarchies are aggregated according to the outline structure. Because aggregate storage databases are optimized for aggregation, the aggregation of data values for stored hierarchies is very fast. Stored hierarchies cannot have formulas.

      • Dynamic—Calculates data values of members. Because dynamic hierarchies are calculated, the data retrieval time may be longer than for data retrieved from stored hierarchies; however, dynamic hierarchies can contain any consolidation operator, and they can have formulas.

      • Multiple—The dimension contains more than one hierarchy. Dimensions can contain both Stored and Dynamic hierarchies.

  6. In the Cube section, select the cubes for which the dimension is enabled. Clearing this option disables all members of the dimension for the deselected cube.

  7. Optional: For Custom Attributes, click to Create to create a custom attribute for a dimension. In the Create Attribute dialog box, enter the attribute name and select a data type. See Working with Attributes.

  8. When you are finished editing dimension properties, click Done.
