Resource Work Skills in Oracle Fusion Field Service

Work skills are the abilities a mobile worker needs to complete a job. They help ensure that each activity is assigned to someone with the appropriate knowledge and experience.

For example, if an installation activity requires an Install skill level of 90%, only workers with an Install skill level of 90% or higher can be assigned to it. You can also use work skills in work skill conditions and organize related skills into work skill groups.

You can use the Work Skills tab on the Resource Calendar page to view and manage the work skills assigned to a mobile worker. The Work Skills tab displays all active permanent and supplemental work skill assignments. Archived assignments aren't shown by default.

Definitions of permanent, supplemental, and archived work skills

Permanent Work Skill: A permanent work skill doesn't have date limits and remains assigned to the resource until you change or remove the assignment. If a supplemental work skill is also assigned, then the supplemental work skill takes precedence over the permanent work skill. This means, when both permanent and supplemental work skills are available for a resource, routing assigns work based on the supplemental work skill, provided the end date for the supplemental work skill isn't in the past.

Supplemental Work Skill: A supplemental work skill is a time-bound skill that a resource has in addition to their permanent skills. Supplemental work skills have a start date and an end date and are displayed on the resource calendar. For example, during a service outage, you can temporarily assign repair skills to mobile workers who usually perform installation or maintenance work. The supplemental skills apply during the specified period. After the period ends, mobile workers continue to use their permanent work skills. A supplemental assignment for a work skill can't overlap another supplemental assignment for the same work skill. If the work skill is already assigned for part of the required period, update the existing assignment instead of creating an overlapping assignment.

Archived Work Skill: An archived work skill is a work skill that has its end date in the past. Archived work skills are no longer available for normal use and the Work Skills tab doesn't display archived work skills by default. This is because the Exclude Archived search filter is selected automatically when the page is displayed. To view the archived work skills, remove this filter and search again.

You can use Smart Search to find an assigned work skill. You can also add, update, and remove work skill assignments. When you edit an existing work skill assignment, you can't change the assigned work skill. You can change other assignment information, such as its ratio or the effective dates of a supplemental assignment.
