Manage Resource Roles

Somewhat similar to how job roles define user access to various parts of Oracle Fusion Field Service and become available as options to associate with Oracle Fusion Field Service user types, resource roles set up in Fusion Applications can become associated with different Oracle Fusion Field Service resource types, which can be configured later to differentiate how field resources of various types should be managed. Some examples of resource roles could be Field Service Mobile Worker, Field Service Contractor or Field Service Manager.

Managing resource roles is a required task, and once you set these roles up in Fusion Applications, you'll need to associate them with different resource types within Oracle Fusion Field Service, especially if you're differentiating types of field resources - those that can be assigned work. You can assign any new users that you create to resource roles, and moreover, you can't assign a resource to an organization within Oracle Fusion Field Service without them being assigned a resource role.

Follow these steps to perform the Manage Resource Roles task:

  1. Sign in to your Oracle Applications Cloud environment as an implementation user.
  2. Click Navigator > My Enterprise > Setup and Maintenance.
  3. Ensure that Field Service is selected in the Setup field in the header.
  4. Click Users and Security in the Functional Areas section.
  5. Click Manage Resource Roles.
  6. Click Create.
  7. In the Role Name field, enter a name for the role (for example, Field Service Mobile Worker and/or Field Service Contractor and/or Field Service Manager).
  8. In the Role Code field, enter the Role Code you follow in your organization (for example FFS_MOBILE_WORKER, FFS_MANAGER.).
  9. Select Service in the Role Type field.
  10. When creating a resource role oriented toward an individual field resource of some type, select Member; when creating a resource role oriented to a manager of some type, select Manager; when creating a administrative type of resource role, select Administrator.
  11. If you're using jobs (previous task), then when creating a user you can select a job that triggers the automatic assignment of the applicable resource role to that user. You'll see this option in the Manage Users task.
  12. Click Save and Close to return to the Functional Areas task list.

The resource roles created here appear as options within the Associated Resource Role field on the Add or Edit Resource Type pages in Oracle Fusion Field Service.

It's important that you create all the resource roles in Fusion Applications and resource types in Oracle Fusion Field Service that you intend to use and associate them as necessary before creating any users that you intend to assign to those resource roles.
