Add an Activity Filter to a Routing Plan
You can use assignment rules (previously called activity filters) to prioritize certain types of activities or resources over others during the routing process. Assignment rules provide an alternative to creating additional routing plans for prioritization.
- Navigate to the Routing Profiles screen and find the routing plan that you want to add the filter to.
- Select the routing plan and click Modify.
- Expand the Filters section of the Routing Plan page.
- Click Add activities assignment rule (previously Add activity filters group).
- Select the rule that you want to add to the routing plan from the Set of activities to be assigned list.
- Select the Resources to which the rule should apply.
- All rule types are managed within this single Filters section.
- Preassigned activities with a Do Not Assign priority are eligible for re-optimization. If re-optimization is enabled, these activities may be moved back to the bucket or unscheduled.
- Select Cost for each resource that you added.
- In general, the higher the cost, the less desirable the assignment.
- If you select Do Not Assign, resources of that type are excluded from assignment unless re-optimization rules move them.
- Repeat these steps to add additional rules. Drag the rules to arrange
them in the sequence you want them applied.
- The rules are arranged in the sequence you added them, with the most recently added rule appearing at the top of the list.
- The All rule always appears last in the list and cannot be deleted.
- If All is the only rule added the label displays as All; if the other rules are also added its label displays as Other.
- Click Add to save your changes.
Assignment Cost for Multiple Activity Filters:
In this example, the routing strategy includes these steps:- Do not assign work to contractors.
- Assign activities to In-house resources before all others.
The Contractors filter has the assignment cost Do not assign so that activities are never assigned to contractors.
The In-House filter has a lower assignment cost than the * (Other) filter so that in-house personnel receive activities before all other resources.
Using Legacy Assignment Rules:
By default, routing plans display the Simplified Filters configuration (single Filters section).
If needed, you can enable the Legacy Assignment Rules option to restore the previous configuration. When enabled:-
The Other filter label is retained instead of All.
-
Missing groups are automatically added with a default Do Not Assign filter.
-
All the four following legacy filter groups reappear: (non-scheduled activities, activities in the bucket, preassigned non-scheduled activities, and activities in existing routes).
-
Non-scheduled activities in the routing bucket that should be scheduled and assigned are not currently on any route. They are not assigned to time slots or resources. Routing will attempt to route them during the next run.
-
Activities in the routing bucket that should be assigned are not currently on any route. They are assigned to time slots but are not assigned to resources. Routing will attempt to route them during the next run.
-
Preassigned non-scheduled activities that should be scheduled are already assigned to resources, but they are not assigned to time slots. You can use reoptimization to automatically move these activities during the routing process.
-
Activities in the existing routes are already assigned to resources and time slots. You can use reoptimization to automatically move these activities during the routing process.
