How GTAS Accumulation Data Is Processed

The Create Federal Files process generates files and reports to support the Office of Management and Budget’s reporting requirements for GTAS (Governmentwide Treasury Account Symbol Adjusted Trial Balance System).

Before you create the GTAS bulk file, you must run the GTAS accumulation process. You run the GTAS accumulation process by selecting the GTAS Accumulation Process mode of the Create Federal Files process. The GTAS accumulation process retrieves GTAS source data from the GL journal header and line tables, associates that data with GTAS attributes, and then stores the data in the temporary federal GTAS balances table for reference.

Here’s how the GTAS data is processed when you run the GTAS accumulation process:

  1. The process selects data from the journal header and journal line records based on the process parameters and additional selection criteria described in this topic: GTAS Accumulation Data Selection Criteria.
  2. The process checks to see if the parent USSGL account for the selected natural account exists in the USSGL table and is GTAS-reportable.
  3. If the parent account exists in the USSGL table, GTAS attributes are assigned to the journal line using logic described in this topic: How GTAS Attributes Are Derived.
  4. The process checks the federal attribute supplemental rule tables for attribute mapping exceptions. If attribute values have been overridden, the attributes are updated.
  5. A row is added to the federal balances table according to the attribute mapping.
