Verify Geographies for Mexico

Geography information in Oracle Cloud applications is used for address entry and geography-based business processes, such as territory management and shipping.

You must import geography reference data and set up that data for the countries where you do business.

The following options for geography reference data for Mexico are available:

  • If you've imported and you're currently using Nokia geography data, you may continue to use this as your geography reference data. You are required to make updates if any changes occur.
  • Optionally import the Oracle-licensed geography reference data (by Loqate).
  • Optionally import geography data from a third party, such as SEPOMEX. You need to import third-party geography data using the file-based import option in Fusion and it must have the same geography structure as the Oracle-licensed geography reference data.

Nokia Data

If you have imported and are currently using Nokia geography data, you may continue to use this as your geography reference data. Be aware that if there are changes to geography data or new additions, you will be required to make these updates from the Manage Geographies task.

If you're continuing to use Nokia geography data, you must have completed the Load Geographies for Mexico task on or before the 18D update. This would have created the FIPS_CODE, Tax geography code, and jurisdiction data automatically.

If you want to replace your existing Nokia geography data with the revised Oracle-licensed geography data, review the Oracle Help Center topic Replace Existing Master Geography Data with Revised Oracle-Licensed Geography Data.

Import Oracle-Licensed Geography Reference Data

You can use the Manage Geographies task to import the geography reference data and manage geography structures, such as country, state, municipality, locality, and postal code.
To import the Oracle-licensed geography reference data, complete these steps:
  1. In the implementation project checklist, to access the Manage Geographies task, select Go To Task.
  2. On the Manage Geographies page, in the Search section, enter MX and click Search.
  3. In the Search Results section, from the Actions menu, select Import Geography Data.
  4. In the Warning dialog box, click OK.
  5. In the Confirmation dialog box, click OK.
  6. To verify that the process completed successfully, go to the Schedule Processes task.

This completes the importing geography data process.

  7. After the import is complete, optionally search for the country again in the Manage Geographies page.
Note: Check marks now appear in the Structure Defined and Hierarchy Defined columns indicating the import completed successfully.
  8. From 19A update, after importing the Oracle-licensed Loqate geography data, complete the Load Geographies for Mexico task.

This creates the FIPS_CODE, Tax geography code, and jurisdiction data automatically.

Import Third-Party Geography Data

You may import geography data from a third party, such as SEPOMEX. Make sure that you import data using the same geography structure used for the Oracle-licensed geography reference data.

For more information about how to prepare and import geography data from an external data source, refer to the Oracle Help Center topic Import Your Geography Data.

After importing geography data from a third party, you must complete the Load Geographies for Mexico task. This creates the FIPS_CODE, Tax geography code and jurisdiction data automatically.

Review Imported Geography Data

From the Manage Geographies page:
  1. To view the general information, select the country name: Mexico.
  2. Select the check mark for each type of geography data you want to verify:
    • Structure defined
    • Hierarchy defined
  3. Verify the information on each page and make any necessary changes.
  4. Click Save and Close.

Define Address Style Format Mapping for Mexico

HR-only, Payroll Interface and Payroll implementations must update the Geography Mapping fields for the Mexican Postal Address Format and the Mexico Address Format.

HR-only implementations with no address validation must select the Mexican Postal Address Format.

All other implementations must use the Mexico Address Format. To set your geography validation for the Mexico Address Format:
  1. From the Manage Geographies page, under Validation Defined, click Go to Task.
  2. In the Address Style Format table, select and highlight the Mexico Address Format row.
  3. In the Geography Mapping and Validation section, select or deselect the Enable List of Values check box as appropriate for each geography type.
Note: Oracle Fusion HCM doesn't use Tax and Geography, so you don't need to select the check boxes. Likewise, you can ignore the fields in the Geography Validation Control section.
  4. Verify the information on each page and make any necessary changes.
  5. Click Save and Close.
