You can use these actions to promote people.

Action	How it works
Promote	Updates the current assignment. Along with that user has the option to manage salary, compensation, payroll, and document records. Use this process if you want to update the above mentioned areas while promoting the worker.
Promote and Change Position	Updates the position while promoting the worker. So, if you're looking to update the position and promote in the same process then only you should use this. Use this if you would like to manage position, salary, compensation, payroll, and document records while promoting a worker. Position change and promote are now part of the same approval process. Earlier, since these were two different processes two approval process used to trigger and promote could only be initiated once the position changes were approved.
