How do I enhance an advanced report?

Introduction, title, and music.

Hello, my name is Mike. In this second of our 3-part series on OTBI functionality, I’ll show you how to edit an advanced report.

I’ll start with the Age Band Summary report that I built in part 1. The first thing I want to add is country.

On the Criteria tab, in the Subject Area section, expand Worker Legislation then double-click Country.

Now I’ll run this and add a pivot table.

Click the Results tab.

In the New View field select Pivot Table.

I’ll remove the table view from the compound layout.

In the Table section, click Remove the View from Compound Layout.

The view is still available here, and I can add it back if needed.

In the View section, with Table selected, highlight the Add View icon.

In the Pivot Table section, click the View Properties icon.

I’ll add Content paging so I don’t have the scroll bars.

In the Data Viewing section, click to select Content paging.

Click OK.

Now I’ll edit the table so that Assignment Count appears above the Age Band, which will help it look more compact.

Click Edit View.

In the Layout section, drag the Measure Labels on the right above the Age Band cell.

Click Done.

Now I’ll add a stacked horizontal bar graph to the report.

In the New View field select Graph > Bar > Stacked Horizontal.

Now I’ll remove the graph from the compound layout.

In the Graph section, click Remove View from Compound Layout.

Again, it’s still available, and can be added back if needed.

In the View section, click to select Graph and highlight the Add View icon.

Now I’ll add in a column selector.

In the New View field select Other Views > Column Selector.

Click and drag the new Column Selector row under the title.

In the Column Selector row, click Edit View.

I want to give users the ability to change views between Assignment Count and Head Count.

In Column 2, click the Include Selector checkbox.

In the Subject Area section, click to expand Worker Assignment and double-click Head Count.

Head Count now appears under Assignment Count. A drop-down list is also available, and if needed I could add a title.

Click to expand the Assignment Count drop-down.

I also want to give users the ability to change the view between country, gender, and business unit name.

In Column 3, click the Include Selector checkbox.

In the Subject Area section, expand Worker and double-click Person Gender.

In the Subject Area section, expand Business Unit and double-click Business Unit Name.

Again, I’ve added a drop-down, and if needed I could add a title.

Click the Country drop-down.

In Column 3, highlight name field.

I can also change any of column properties if I need to.

In Column 3, Business Unit Name, click the Column Properties icon.

For example, if I want to rename the column, or change the formatting or interaction.

Click the Column Format tab.

Click Cancel.

Click Done.

Now I’ve got a more flexible report where I can see the Assignment Count by gender.

In the Column Selector section, in the Country field select Person Gender.

And I can see the head count by gender.

In the Column Selector section, in the Assignment Count field select Head Count.

The last addition I want to make is to add a view selector.

In the New View field select Other Views > View Selector.

Click and drag the new View Selector row under the Column Selector row.

I’m going to remove my pivot table from the compound layout.

In the Pivot Table section, click Remove View from Compound Layout.

Again, it’s still available and can be added back as needed.

In the Views section, click to select Pivot Table and highlight the Add View icon.

In the View Selector row, click Edit View.

I can add a caption if needed. What I want to do is select the graph as the first view, and then the pivot table as the alternative.

Highlight Caption field.

And I can switch between these views as needed.

In the Available Views, click Graph and then click the Move icon.

In the Available Views, click Pivot Table and then click the Move icon.

Click the Graph drop-down.

Click to close the Graph drop-down.

Click Done.

Now I have a pretty flexible report, where I can change the views between Head Count and Assignment Count, I can change between Gender and Country or Business Unit Name, and I can change the graph to a pivot table.

In the Head Count field select Assignment Count.

In the Person Gender field select Business Unit Name.

In the Graph field select Pivot Table.

The last thing I’ll do is make sure I save my changes. This concludes the Enhancing an Advanced Report tutorial, part 2 of our 3 part series.

Click Save Analysis.

Thanks for watching.
