How are extracts validated?

Title and music.

Hello, my name is Ken. In this video I’ll explain how extracts are validated.

An extract definition is validated to ensure all data entered will cause no issues when you submit the extract.

During the validation of an extract, the application performs validations on the extract design to ensure that:

  • The extract data group is defined.
  • All non-root data groups are linked to the root data group directly or indirectly.
  • If a sequence of data groups is defined, then the next data group is also defined for processing.
  • All Fast Formulas used in the extract exist and are compiled or valid.
  • There are no issues detected during BI publisher validations.

Now let’s see how we can validate an existing extract definition that extracts person details.

In the Hierarchy section, click the Extract Execution Tree.

The extract execution tree displays the hierarchy of the extract definition, including the data groups and records.

Notice also that in the Extract Record row, the status shows Fast Formula with a red X which means that it is not compiled. So I’ll click Compile All Formula.

Click Refresh to get an update on the status.

When the green check mark displays, it indicates the formula is compiled.

Next, I’ll validate the Extract Definition.

At the Validation Message, we have the option to click Download if there was an error and we wanted to download the log files.

However, our extract definition has no errors, so I’ll click OK.

You can also validate an extract by clicking the Submit button.

The Validate button and the Submit button perform the same action.

Click Save.
