How do I take advantage of sample reports?

Start on the Customer Connect Home page.

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to create an analysis using a sample catalog and XML report from Customer Connect. I’m signed in on the Customer Connect website, which is at https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/. If I didn’t have an account, I’d need to register for one. I’m looking for a sample report to use. Once I find one, I can use or change it.

On the Customer Connect Home page, hover over Categories and select Reporting and Analytics > HCM Report Sharing Center.

Scroll down to show list of reports.

I can use one of the reports listed here, or search for a particular report.

In the Search field, enter headcount by age.

Click Search.

In the Search Results, click the Headcount by Age Band report link.

Once I find a sample report, I can see all the details and the report itself. This report is in a catalog. I’ll need to download it to use it.

Click Headcount by Age Band.catalog

In the browser, click the OTBI tab.

In OTBI, start on the Catalog page with My Folders selected.

In the Tasks section, click Unarchive.

Now I’ll unarchive the file in Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence. I want to place my analysis in My Folders or in the Custom folder under Shared Folders. If I place the analysis anywhere else it’ll be lost in the next upgrade.

In the Unarchive window, click Browse.

Find and select the downloaded .catalog file.

Click Open.

Click OK.

Click OK.

Once the report is unarchived, I can see it and run it from here.

In the list of reports, for Headcount by Age Band, click the Open link.

Here’s the report. I can use the controls to view more details. Now I’ll go back to Customer Connect and look at another way to use sample reports.

In the browser, click the Customer Connect tab.

In Customer Connect, I’ll search for another report that happens to be an XML file.

Click the Back to HCM Report Sharing Center link.

In the Search field, enter workforce trend.

Click Search.

In the Search Results, click the Workforce Trend with Prompted Dates link.

Click the Workforce Trend with Prompted Dates XML.txt file.

I’ll copy the contents of the .txt file to the clipboard.

The browser opens and displays the .txt file.

Click CTRL+A to copy the .txt file to the clipboard.

Then I’ll go back to the report in OTBI and paste the code.

In the browser, go back to the OTBI tab that’s still running the Headcount by Age Band report.

Click Edit.

Click the Advanced tab.

I want to make sure I delete the existing code before pasting the new code I copied. Now I’ll apply the XML.

In the Analysis XML text field, press CTRL+A to select all the current code.

Press Delete to delete all the selected code.

Press CTRL+V to paste all the code copied from the .txt file.

Click Apply XML.

Then I’ll run the report.

Click the Results tab.

If I need to, I can continue to edit the report.

Click the Save Analysis icon.

What I want to make sure to do is save my analysis to My Folders or in the Custom folder under Shared Folders. If I place the analysis anywhere else, it’ll be lost in the next upgrade. I’ll enter the analysis title, and I have the option of entering a description.

In the Name field, enter Workforce Trend with Prompted Dates.

Click OK.

The report is now ready to be used, and I can view it here. This concludes the Taking Advantage of Sample Reports tutorial. Thanks for watching.
