Specify the Default Visibility for a Value List Input

Note: This feature is only available in Latest Version interviews.

When you associate a value list with an attribute collected on a screen, the default configuration is for all items in the value list to always be shown in an interview. This is indicated in the Values drop-down window by Default visibility: Show if Always for the value list and Use default visibility for each of the value list items.

You may, however, want the default starting point to be for all value list items to be hidden, and then you can manually select which individual list items you want to show. This could be useful when you have a large number of values in the value list that you want to hide, or when you want to automatically hide new items when a value list is updated from a connected application.

To change the default visibility for value list items:

  1. On the Interview tab in Policy Modeling, select the control associated with the value list in the screen list or the screen layout view.
  2. Click the Values button.
  3. In the drop-down window, specify if the list items are to be shown or hidden by clicking the Hide if or Show if link.
  4. In the drop-down list next to Show if or Hide if, select from:
    • Always
    • Never
    • the attribute that you want to use to determine the default visibility of the list items. Only Boolean attributes, and attributes that are associated with a value list, are available to select from.
