Person import details
Use File import to create people in QuickStart or update existing Person records from a CSV file. The record-specific template identifies the supported person fields and formats, while names, dates, phone numbers, tax identifiers, and email addresses must satisfy their validation rules.
Before you begin
-
You need permission to create or update person records.
-
Open Menu > Administration > Data import > File import, select Import, and select Person and the required operation. Download a new template for that selection.
-
Keep the generated headers unchanged. Required columns are marked in the downloaded template.
Supported operations
-
Create new records creates a person for each valid row.
-
Update existing records updates a person identified by an internal ID or external ID.
-
Create new or update existing records updates a referenced person and creates a person when no matching reference is supplied.
Required person data
Complete the required template fields, including Primary Column, First Name, Last Name, and Work Email. A work email address must be valid and cannot already be used by another person.
The current template is the source of truth for additional required fields introduced by your account configuration. Optional dates, phone numbers, tax identifiers, and email addresses must use valid formats.
For dropdown fields such as Ethnicity and Gender, use the ID or name format specified by the downloaded column header. Do not replace generated headers with headers from an older template.
Import related records
Create the records referenced by a job assignment or emergency contact before importing the dependent record:
-
Import people and jobs.
-
Download the result files and retain the internal IDs of the new people and jobs.
-
Add the required person and job references to the Job Assignment and Person Emergency Contact templates.
-
Import job assignments and emergency contacts.
When order matters within one file, select The records in my file depend on each other and must be imported in the order they appear in the file under Advanced options.
Import the file
Upload the completed template and follow Import a file. After the job finishes, review its result file. Correct failed rows and import those rows again.
