Apply a custom field to a record from the Customization section Fields page

If you need to apply a field to additional record types, you can add it using the Customization section Fields page. When you add a custom field to a record type, you’re associating it with a specific record or transaction type.

If a field no longer applies to a specific record type, you can use the Customization section Fields page to remove it from the record type where it’s not needed. The field will no longer appear on the form of the record type you removed it from, but all data associated with the field on the specific record is preserved.

Before you begin

You need the Administrator access profile or the Customization: create fields and segments permission set. The custom field must already exist. Removing a field from a record type preserves its existing data.
