Categorize credit card transactions
Categorize an imported credit card transaction when it is not already recorded in QuickStart. Categorization creates an expense for a positive amount or an expense refund for a negative amount and reconciles it with the imported transaction. Open Menu, select Banking, and then select Cash management.
Do not categorize a transaction that is already recorded. Match it instead to avoid creating a duplicate.
To categorize a credit card transaction:
- Open Menu, select Banking, and then select Cash management.
- Select Bank & credit card reconciliation.
- Select the credit card account that you want to reconcile.
- On the To reconcile tab, select Review for a transaction with a category suggestion or no match.
- In the Review transaction drawer, select Categorize.
- Review the suggested expense category or select another category. When available, Suggested by identifies why the category was suggested or which reconciliation rule produced the suggestion.
- Select a person or company and update the memo, as needed.
- If custom segments are available, select Add segments and enter the applicable values.
- Add attachments, as needed. You can attach up to 10 files, and each file can be up to 10 MB.
- Select Confirm.
The imported transaction moves to the Reconciled tab. QuickStart creates and posts the corresponding expense or expense refund in the expense account mapped to the category.
QuickStart can suggest an expense category directly after an automatic import. An inactive category is not available for new suggestions. To create or reactivate a category, go to Banking, select Settings, and then select Expense categories.
To reverse the categorization, use Unreconcile on the Reconciled tab. QuickStart removes the automatically created transaction when the applicable period permits it.
