Prepare a CSV file for importing bank transactions
Use the QuickStart CSV template to format bank or credit-card transactions when an OFX file or automatic connection is not available. The file identifies the account, date, amount, description, and other supported transaction details and can contain activity for one or multiple accounts before upload.
In the Import bank file drawer or on the Import transactions into multiple accounts page, select Download CSV template. Do not rename or remove the template columns. Leave optional cells empty when a value does not apply.
The template contains the following columns:
| Column | Description | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Date (MM/DD/YYYY) | Transaction date in MM/DD/YYYY format. | Yes |
| Account | External identifier of the bank or credit card account. Required for a multiple-account import. | Multiple-account imports only |
| Payer/Payee Name | Name of the payer or payee. | No |
| Transaction Id | Unique identifier of the transaction. | No |
| Transaction Type | Type supplied by the financial institution. | No |
| Amount | Transaction amount. Prefix a negative amount with a minus sign. | Yes |
| Memo | Transaction memo. | No |
| Account Current Balance | Current balance reported for the external account. | No |
| Current Balance As Of Date (MM/DD/YYYY) | Date of the reported current balance in MM/DD/YYYY format. | No |
The following example contains transactions for a single account. The Account column is intentionally empty:
Date (MM/DD/YYYY),Account,Payer/Payee Name,Transaction Id,Transaction Type,Amount,Memo,Account Current Balance,Current Balance As Of Date (MM/DD/YYYY)
03/03/2026,,Payer A,99991,Credit,1000.00,Customer payment,,
03/04/2026,,Payee B,99992,Debit,-2000.00,Vendor payment,29999.00,03/05/2026
For a multiple-account import, enter the external account identifier in the Account column for every transaction. QuickStart uses these values when you link external accounts to accounts in QuickStart.
Save the completed file as CSV and upload it without changing the column names.
