Get started with importing a bank file

Import an OFX or CSV bank file when you need to load bank or credit-card transactions without an automatic connection. QuickStart processes the file asynchronously, reports success or failure, and sends imported transactions to Bank & credit card reconciliation, where rules can suggest or automatically apply matches and categories.

You need the account administrator, full business access, or accountant access profile. You can upload one file per import. The maximum file size is 1 MB.

To start a single-account import, open Menu, select Banking, select Cash management, and then select Bank & credit card reconciliation. From the Actions menu, select Import bank file. Administrators can also start from Connected accounts.

For a single-account import:

  1. Upload the OFX or CSV file.
  2. Select the account in QuickStart when it cannot be determined from the file.
  3. Select Import.

QuickStart selects the file reader automatically for a supported file in a single-account import. If the file type is not supported, select a supported OFX or CSV file.

For a multiple-account file, use the link in the import drawer to open Import transactions into multiple accounts. Upload the file, name the account-linking template, select the file reader, link each external account to an account in QuickStart, review the mappings, and then import.

For CSV imports, use the downloadable template and do not rename its columns. For details, see Prepare a CSV file for importing bank transactions.

QuickStart shows import progress and then reports success or failure. Imported transactions appear on Bank & credit card reconciliation, where reconciliation rules can suggest or automatically apply results. If an import fails, download the available error report, correct the file, and try again. Error reports are available for 24 hours.

Review automatic and file imports on the Bank import history page.
