Subscription metrics and reports
Use the Subscriptions business area in Menu > Reports to review the records and calculations behind the Subscription dashboard. Search by report name, filter Business area by Subscriptions, or group the results by business area. Report rows can link to source records, such as customers, subscriptions, and items.
Dashboard metrics
The dashboard displays these headline metrics:
- MRR: Monthly recurring revenue from recurring subscription lines. Yearly recurring charges are spread evenly across 12 months. One-time and usage lines are excluded.
- Booking: The value of subscription orders booked in the selected period. Fixed-term subscriptions are counted for their full term. Endless subscriptions are counted as one year of recurring value. Usage lines are excluded.
- Churn Rate: The percentage of active subscription customers who churned in a completed month. A customer churns when an active subscription ends or is canceled and the customer has no other active subscription continuing into the following month.
- NRR: Revenue retained from existing subscription customers after expansion, contraction, and churn. Customers who are new in the month are excluded.
The dashboard charts compare MRR over time, booking with churn rate, MRR with burn rate, and average customer acquisition cost with customer lifetime value. Select a report link on a chart to inspect the records behind it.
Subscription and customer reports
- Plan performance report: Compares subscription plans by status, billing profile, subscription count, expiring subscriptions, and total value.
- Subscription renewal risk report: Shows active subscriptions that end in the next 90 days and groups them into renewal risk buckets.
- Customer base overview report: Shows monthly counts of active, churned, and new subscription customers. Customers without subscriptions are excluded.
- New customers report: Shows customers whose first active subscription started in the selected period. Customers who only purchased non-subscription items are excluded.
Revenue and retention reports
- Average revenue per user report: Shows average revenue per user (ARPU), calculated as recurring subscription revenue divided by active subscription customers for the period.
- Churn report: Shows subscription customers who churned in completed months. Customers without subscriptions are excluded.
- Customer lifetime value report: Shows customer lifetime value (CLV) and its ARPU, churn rate, and average-lifetime inputs. CLV is calculated as ARPU divided by churn rate. If churn rate is 0, QuickStart uses a minimum churn rate to avoid an unlimited value. Customers without subscriptions are excluded.
- Monthly recurring revenue report: Shows MRR by month, customer, subscription, and item. Yearly recurring charges are spread evenly across 12 months. One-time and usage lines are excluded.
- Net revenue retention report: Shows starting MRR, expansion, contraction, churned MRR, ending MRR, and the resulting retention for existing customers. Customers who are new in the month are excluded.
- Subscription bookings report: Shows booking value by booking date, customer, and subscription. Booking includes one-time and recurring lines. Fixed-term subscriptions are counted for their full term, and endless subscriptions are counted as one year of recurring value. Usage lines are excluded.
Cash runway report
The Runway report shows the end-of-month cash balance, monthly burn rate, and remaining runway in months.
- Cash balance is the cumulative balance of cash and bank accounts.
- Burn rate is based on monthly cash outflow. Positive cash generation is not treated as burn.
- Remaining runway is calculated as cash balance divided by burn rate.
The runway calculation uses accounting balances rather than subscription lines, so it can differ from MRR even when both values appear on the same dashboard chart.
