The Statistical Sampling Workflow

To use Statistical Sampling, follow this workflow:

  1. Create a statistical sampling template:

  2. Define the defect type:

  3. Perform the transaction:

Create a statistical sampling template:

  1. Go to Quality > Setup > Statistical Sampling Template > New.

  2. In the Name field, enter a unique and descriptive inspection.

  3. (Optional) Enter a statistical sampling template Description.

  4. (Optional) In the Quality Level field, specify the quality level based on your quality standards.

  5. (Optional) In the Inspection category field, enter the inspection category where you want to use this template.

  6. (Optional) Check Enable Sampling Rates by Number box.

    • If you check this box, the SuiteApp calculates the sampling rates as the number of samples to inspect. The sample rate, major defect count, minor defect count, and critical defect count are all set as numerical values.

For example, if you enter 10 as the sampling rate, the SuiteApp creates 10 samples for an inspection.

    • If you keep this box clear, the SuiteApp calculates the sampling rates as a percentage of the quantity to inspect. The sample rate, major defect count, minor defect count, and critical defect count are all set as percentages.

For example, if you enter 10 as the sampling rate, the SuiteApp creates several samples equal to 10% of the total quantity.

    Note:

This setting a one-time configuration made during the creation of the statistical sampling Template. After the template is created, this setting cannot be modified.

  7. In the Sampling Rates field, enter the number or percentage of samples to inspect.

  8. In the Allowable Critical Defects field, specify the maximum number or percentage of samples that can be rejected due to critical defects. If this limit is exceeded, the inspection fails.

  9. In the Allowable Major Defects field, specify the maximum number or percentage of samples that can be rejected due to major defects. If this limit is exceeded, the inspection fails.

  10. In the Allowable Minor Defects field, specify the maximum number or percentage of samples that can be rejected due to minor defects. If this limit exceeds, the inspection fails.

  11. Select a Defect Counting Method. For more information about how each counting method works, see Defect Counting Methods.

  12. Click Save.

Define the defect type:

In the Statistical Sampling Context, you can define the parent transaction for Item Receipts and Item Fulfillments.

  1. Update or create a Quality Inspection.

  2. In the Inspection Sampling section, in the Sampling Requirement field, select Statistical Sampling.

The system automatically associates the following sampling summary fields:

    • Samples Inspected

    • Critical Defects

    • Major Defects

    • Minor Defects

  3. To define pass-fail criteria, click the Pass Fail Criteria subtab and then define the Defect Type:

    • Critical

    • Major

    • Minor

  4. Click Save.

  5. In the corresponding Quality Specification, define the QM Statistical Sampling Context based on your organizational requirements:

    • Item Based

    • Volume Based for an Item

    • Transaction Based for an Item

    • Transaction & Volume Based for an Item

Perform the transaction:

  1. Complete the transaction.

For example, in the Item Receipt, receive the lot.

The system creates the inspection queue for the received inventory and the sampling inspection you set up in the template.

  2. Perform the inspection.

The defect type shows these field colors in the QM tablet:

    • Critical - dark red

    • Major - orange

    • Minor - yellow

  3. During the inspection, enter this information:

    • Number of samples inspected.

    • Number of samples with critical defects.

    • Number of samples with major defects.

    • Number of samples with minor defects.

  4. Record the inspection.

Quality Management checks the inspection status based on the template definition.

The Quality Sampling Summary Data page shows the details of your sampling summary data.
