Administrative Tasks and Predefined Roles

Basic access to Profitability and Cost Management instances is granted by assigning users to predefined functional roles.

For example, to permit users to view reports belonging to a test instance, they should be assigned to the Viewer role for the instance.

Profitability and Cost Management roles are cumulative. For example, Service Administrators can perform the same tasks as those with Power User and Viewer roles, plus their own exclusive tasks.

Note:

Identity Domain Administrator is not a functional role; it does not inherit access privileges granted through functional roles. To access service features, the Identity Domain Administrator must be granted one of the four functional roles outlined in Table 4-1.

See Identity Domain Administrator role in Getting Started with Oracle Cloud for a detailed description of this role.

Application-level Security and setup tasks are managed as follows, after Identity Domain Administrators perform initial setup and service access tasks:

  • Service Administrators perform the following application-level security tasks and application setup tasks:

    • Create and manage applications and their dimensions and members using the Profitability Application Console.

    • Migrate application artifacts from on-premise to Cloud environments, test to production environments, and perform backup and restore tasks..

    • Perform any actions available to the other three functional roles

  • In addition, Power Users and Service Administrators can perform the following tasks:

    • Create, update, and delete modeling rules and points of view (POVs).

    • Set up a variety of modeling analyses, including analysis views, dashboards, scatter analysis charts, profit curves, key performance indicators, and reports.

    • Load data.

    • Calculate and re-calculate the application.

    • View and modify modeled data.

    • Trace allocations.

The following table summarizes these tasks.

Table 4-1 Profitability and Cost Management Roles

Role Description

Service Administrator

Performs all functional activities in Profitability and Cost Management.

This role should be granted to Profitability and Cost Management experts who need to create and administer application and service components.

Power User

Views and interacts with data. This role grants high-level access to several Profitability and Cost Management functional areas and should be granted to senior financial analysts among others.

Like Service Administrators, Power Users can create and administer service components such as rule sets, rules, analysis views, dashboards, scatter analysis charts, profit curves, key performance indicators, and reports.

User

Enters data and runs analyses for dimension members to which they have access. Designs reports and other analytic outputs.

Note: Data grants can affect write access for those with the User role. See the notes in Data Grant Group Considerations.

Viewer

Views and analyzes data using various analytic features.

Note: Users with the Viewer role are never granted Write Access.

Note:

  • These roles are cumulative, so only one role is needed for each user. You should only assign one of these four roles to each user at any one time.

  • For a detailed description of setting up security and assigning roles, see Getting Started with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud for Administrators.
