Billable Assignment for Resource Requests

When you as a resource manager or a project manager creates a resource request, you can specify the resource assignment as a billable assignment type. You evaluate the potential resource based on the availability score calculated on the resources' current billable or nonbillable assignments.

Request for Billable Assignment

When you or a project manager submits a project resource request, you can specify if the request is for billable assignment on Create or Edit Project Resource Request pages.

Select the Assignment Type as billable or nonbillable. You can specify the billable percentage for the resource along with the reason for the assignment. Billable percent can represent the percentage of assigned hours that are billable.

You can set the assignment type for the existing assignments for Open requests and Confirmed or Reserved assignments.

Resource Evaluation

You can evaluate the resources based on their available capacity score and utilization for current billable assignments.

Depending on how your administrator has set up the available capacity score calculation, it's calculated on one of the following:

  • Billable assignment only

  • Billable assignments and non-project events such as vacation or training

  • All assignments and non-project events

Before you fulfill a resource request, here's how you can view the utilization and current billable assignments of the resource:

  • Review Search and Evaluate page.

  • View Gantt chart in the Schedule region on the Resource Details page that display the billable and nonbillable assignments for Reserved statuses.

  • Review resource projected and actual utilization in the Resource Manager Dashboard for billable assignments only or all assignments. Select the Billable assignments only option.

  • Create analyses in Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence for billable and nonbillable assignments and review resource utilization.

Request Fulfillment

Now that you have evaluated and finalized the resource, approve, propose, or nominate the resource to fulfill the request for a billable assignment. You must have the Approve Project Resource Assignment to Project privilege to approve a resource assignment.

Depending upon how your administrator has set up the overbooking of resources, here's what you should consider:

  • If overbooking isn't allowed and two billable assignments overlap, you can't assign the resource. But, if there is one billable and one nonbillable assignment that overlap, you get a warning and you can proceed.

  • If overbooking is allowed and there is an overlap between two assignments, regardless of billable or nonbillable assignments you get a warning but you can still fulfill the request.
