Project Plan Baselines

Project managers can create multiple baselines during the project lifecycle, and set one of them as the primary baseline. You can set a primary baseline and compare it with current project progress.

And, view the primary baseline data on the Gantt chart in the Manage Project Plan page.

You must have the Manage Project Work Plan Baselines privilege or the Project Manager role to manage baselines.

Here's how you can view primary baseline data:

  • Right-click on the Gantt chart and click Show Baseline to view the baseline start and end dates.

  • Add baseline-related columns such as Baseline Duration, Baseline Effort, Baseline Start, Baseline Finish, Baseline Labor Cost, Baseline Expense Amount, and Baseline Labor Bill Amount.

Here's what you can do using primary baselines:

  • Track incremental project progress and performance.

  • Compare the current schedule with the primary baseline schedule on the Gantt chart.

  • Identify slippages in the project plan for estimating similar projects in the future.

  • Use Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence for reporting on the baseline values:

    • Use Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence reports to track the variances between actual values and baseline values. Use the Baseline Variance Analysis sample report to understand how you can create your own custom reports using baseline data.

    • Use the Project Management - Planning Real Time subject area to create analyses.
