Manage Performance Measures
A performance measure is a value that indicates how well your project and program are performing.
When measures are enabled for programs, the value associated with each performance measure for each project in a program is collected and summarized. The method of summarization may vary depending on the nature of the performance measure. For example, actuals such as ITD or QTD are calculated by adding related values together, while earned value measures are calculated using detailed formulas. Program managers can add enabled measures to their Headlines and Analysis views in the Program Management work area.
The application enables you to group related program measures into performance measure sets, which in turn, it groups under intuitively named measure categories. For example, the ITD budget margin seeded performance measure is a part of the Budget margin measure set, which contains a list of other performance measures that are related to budget margins, such as PTD budget margin and QTD budget margin. This measure set itself is a part of the Margin budget measure category, which lists out all margin-related measure sets, such as Margin variance and Original budget margin. Organizing performance measures into measure sets and categories makes it easier to organize and search for performance measures when needed.
Thus, when you search for a performance measure and are unsure of its name, select the measure category that's closest to it. For example, if you're searching for the ITD forecast labor effort measure, click the Measure Category field, select Effort forecast, and click Search. From the list of performance measure sets, select Forecast labor effort, and you can see ITD forecast labor effort in the Measures section.
If you know the name of the performance measure set to which a performance measure belongs, enter it in the Name field in the Manage Performance Measures page and select the performance measure you want to edit. The Edit Performance Measure page appears.
Edit Performance Measure Options
- Measure: Update the name of the measure.
- Graph Type: Update how the measure appears in visualizations. You can choose between Graph, Bar, and None.
- Enabled for Use: Select to enable the performance measure for projects and/or programs.
- Default Display: Select to display the performance measure in the Analysis page by default for projects and/or programs.
Edit Related Measures
Select a performance measure in the Measures section to display related performance measures.
Click the Add Row icon to add a related performance measure and use the Measure drop-down list to select the performance measure that you want to add. You can update a related performance measure by clicking the Measure drop-down list and selecting another performance measure as appropriate.
Click the Delete icon to delete a related performance measure that you added, from the list.
Preconfigured Performance Measures
15 preconfigured measures are available in the Programs work area for default display. You can select your own by modifying the Default Display value for the measures you choose. Earned value and effort measures default to the Progress view. All other measures default to the Financial view.
Here's the list of measures preconfigured for default display, according to the view you choose.
