Using the Main Map and Explore Your City Map

The agency-facing Main Map and the public-facing Explore Your City map provide options for viewing existing applications and projects on the map and for selecting properties so that you can start new applications.

Note:

To provide different types of users with the most appropriate interface, there are separate main maps for agency users, registered public users, and anonymous public users. These maps can have different map profiles, giving you control over whether various map options are available to each audience. See Setting Up Map Profiles.

Transactions that are missing shape or geometry information can’t be displayed on the map. Oracle recommends that your agency run the Update Shape on Transactions process after migrating transactions from the legacy system and after restarting the GIS servers due to maintenance. For more information, see Using the Process Monitor

Selecting Properties Using Basic Search

Use the basic search panel to find a location by address or parcel number. The panel appears over the map and includes a drop-down list, search field, optional filters, help text, and an expand or collapse control.

This example illustrates the Search in menu on the Explore Your City map. Users can choose Address or Parcel before entering search text.

Parcel search result after a map marker is selected

To search for properties and view transactions:

  1. Users can search either by Address or Parcel. Address is selected by default, and users can use the drop-down list to switch between Address and Parcel when searching for locations and related transactions.

  2. Enter a full or partial value in the search field.

  3. Use the search suggestions when they appear or perform the search from the search field.

  4. Review the matching location markers on the map. A transaction-count marker appearshen applications are associated with the selected location.

  5. Select the map marker or transaction-count marker to open the Details drawer for the location.

Note:

Agencies can choose to hide their business license and other business information from appearing in the search results and on the maps. For details on how to hide business information, see Setting Up Agency-Level Options for Business Licenses and Managing Business Information.

Selecting Properties Using the Selection Toolbar

Selection Tools

Selection tools are used to select actual properties or parcels from the underlying map layer. These tools are available only when they are enabled for the map profile.

In Explore Your City, users can select only one property or parcel at a time. Because of this, the Selection toolbar displays only the Point selection tool. Users can click a point on the map to select the property that intersects with that point.

After selecting a property, users can view existing transactions for that property or start a new application, depending on their role and access.

Sketch Tools

Sketch tools are used to draw temporary markings on the map. These drawings are for visual reference only and do not select actual property records from the map layer. Sketches are temporary and are not saved.

Users can sketch on the map using tools such as:

Using the Selected Locations List

The Selected location details drawer enables users to review information about a location and the transactions associated with that location. Selecting a map marker opens the details drawer.

To review information on the location details drawer:

  1. Select a location marker on the map.

  2. The drawer displays the selected address or parcel in the Location section.

  3. The All tab shows the total number of associated applications. Additional tabs, such as Permits, Planning, Licenses, and Cases, appear based on the enabled offerings and available records.

  4. Select a transaction-type tab to filter the application list to that transaction type.

  5. Review information of each associated application, that includes the transaction type, status, application name, record number, description, issue date, and status details.

  6. Click a linked record number to open the corresponding detail page in a new browser tab. Depending upon the user’s application access, only relevant information will be displayed.

  7. Click the Close icon in the Details drawer to close the drawer and return to the map view.

  8. To start an application for the selected properties, click the Apply button (not available to anonymous users).

The Apply page appears so you can select an application type and start an application. If the application intake form includes a Property section, the property information will be prepopulated based on the selected properties.

Note:

The actions Go to address details and Go to parcel details are available only to agency users. Business license and case detail hyperlinks are not available to anonymous users.

Anonymous users do not have access to actions that require sign-in, such as starting an application.

Note:

If the selected property has an associated business license that is marked to be hidden, then the icon label will not include it in its count.

Searching for Transactions on the Explore Your City Map

You can search for supported transactions and view matching transactions on the Explore Your City map. The transaction types available for search depend on the offerings enabled for the agency and the user's access.

Depending on your access, you can search for transaction types such as permits, planning applications, business licenses, and cases.

To search for transactions:

  1. In the search panel, select the transaction type that you want to search.

  2. Enter search text or use the available filter options to refine the search. The available filters depend on the selected transaction type.

  3. Review the matching transactions in the search results. Matching transactions that have location information are also plotted on the map.

  4. Select a transaction in the results to locate it on the map.

  5. Select the Details icon for a transaction to open the Details drawer. The information displayed depends on the transaction type. Transaction information can include the record number, record type, description, date, and status.

  6. Select an available transaction link or action to navigate to additional details. Available links and actions depend on the user's access.

Note:

Transactions without the location or geometry information required for mapping aren't plotted on the map.

Searching for Permits and Planning Applications

When you search for permits or planning applications, filter chips are available to refine the search. You can remove applied filters to expand the search results.

Matching applications are displayed in the search results and plotted on the map. A transaction-specific marker identifies a single transaction at a location. If multiple transactions are associated with the same location, the marker displays the number of transactions.

Select a transaction or its Details icon to view additional information. Depending on your access and the location information available for the transaction, you can navigate to the application, address details, or parcel details, or start a new application.

Searching for Business Licenses

You can search for business licenses and plot matching results on the Explore Your City map. No filter is applied by default.

Enter available business license information in the search field to refine the results. The searchable information and business information displayed to public users depend on the agency's business license configuration.

Matching business licenses appear in the results and, when location information is available, are plotted on the map.

Select the Details icon to view additional business license information. Depending on the available data and agency configuration, information can include the business name, description, issue date, and status.
Note:

Agencies can configure whether public users can search for business licenses by address and which business information is available in public search results. When business license search by address isn't enabled for public users, the business license search option isn't available for that search context. Business license information that the agency has configured as restricted isn't displayed to public users.

Searching for Cases on the Explore Your City Map

Agency users can search for cases and view matching cases on the Explore Your City map.

To search for cases:

  1. In the search panel, select Cases. By default, the search is filtered to cases submitted during This Month.

  2. Use the submitted-date or status filters to refine the search. You can remove applied filters to expand the results.

Enter a keyword, such as a case ID or status, to further refine the search. Matching cases are listed in the search results and plotted on the map. When multiple cases are at the same location, the marker displays the number of cases. The map also supports clustering for nearby case locations.

  3. Select the Details icon for a case to open the Details drawer. The drawer displays available case information, such as issue type, description, issue date, and status.

  4. Select an available case link to open the case details page. Depending on the location information and your access, you can also navigate to the related address or parcel details.

Note:

Case search on the Explore Your City map is available to agency users. It's not available to registered public users or anonymous users. The cases and case information that an agency user can view are subject to the user's application access.

Searching for Nearby Transactions

Agency users can search for transactions near a selected address or parcel. The search includes transactions associated with the selected location and transactions within a specified distance of the location.

  1. Users can search either by Address or Parcel. Address is selected by default, and users can use the drop-down list to switch between Address and Parcel when searching for locations and nearby transactions.

  2. Select Nearby Transactions.

  3. On the Nearby transaction details drawer, review the following fields and make changes as needed:

    Page Element

    Description

    Location

Indicates the location of the selected address or parcel.

The three-dot actions menu allows agency users to go to the address or parcel details. You can also start a new application for this location.

    Show Nearby Transactions

Turn this option on to view nearby transactions for the selected location.

When this is turned off, the radius and unit fields are hidden. Users can continue to use transaction type, status, and date criteria to filter transactions associated with the selected location.

    Nearby Radius and Unit

By default search distance is set at 500 ft. Change the radius and unit as needed to define the area in which to search for transactions.

    Show Transaction Types

Select the transaction types to include in the search. The available transaction types depend on the offerings enabled for your agency and can include Permits, Planning Applications, Business Licenses, Cases.

    Status

Select a status to further refine the results. Depending on the configured options, you can search for active transactions or include all transactions regardless of status.

    Date range

Select a date range. Supported date ranges are:

    • All

    • This Month

    • Last Month

    • This Quarter

    • Last Quarter

    • This Year

    • Last Year

The applicable transaction date depends on the transaction type. The nearby search uses the corresponding date criteria configured for that transaction type.

  4. Select Apply.

The map markers and transaction list are refreshed to display transactions that match the specified criteria.

    The results can include:

    • Transactions associated directly with the selected address or parcel.

    • Transactions found within the specified radius of the selected location.

Transactions associated directly with the selected location display a Selected Address or Selected Parcel tag. Transactions found only through the nearby search don't display this tag.

Use the All tab to view all matching transactions, or select an individual transaction-type tab, such as Permits, Planning, Licenses, or Cases, to view only transactions of that type.

When you reopen the nearby transaction options, the previously applied nearby-search criteria are retained.

To redefine the search, change the radius, transaction types, status, or date range and select Apply again. The map and transaction list are updated based on the revised criteria.

    Note:

The transactions displayed depend on agency configuration and the signed-in user's application access.
